Question on moving sps acclimation

How quickly are you guys moving your sps to their final resting points? Do you inch it up over a month or more? Over a week or 2?

I have a cquarium unknown frag that was shipped as a fresh cut. I mounted the frag and it is encrusting. It's been in my system for probably 3 weeks now. It's still on my sandbed. Should I allow it to heal more before moving it at all? The spot on the sandbed is getting about 300 par.

75 gal display tank with 6x54 ati fixture.

Thanks guys!

IMO there should be no efforts in light acclimation in regards to T5's, if at all, unless absurdly powerful lighting.

With your fixture the periodic moving around would arguably pose more harm than just placing it wherever so called "resting place" is.

(on a side note I hope that it's not its final resting place) :hmm1:

I personally put near or n bottom for a few weeks then up to final spot if acclimated to my water and looking healthy

So, no need to acclimate sps frags to ati sunpower t5 lighting? Just put them where you want and they're good to go?

Imo you definitely have to worry about frying your corals with any ATI light that's suitable for the tank size.. Figure your getting 300 par on the sandbed it's a whole lot more up top.. No way I would have good luck slamming a frag in the peak of my scape with a par reading of 580+ that the powermodule is putting out right now.

I follow what BrentH does.. I always start low and move up to where I'm planning over the course of a week or 3..A lot of times I need to move them around because the acro doesn't necessarily agree with the place I like or am trying to cram it in =).. If it comes from known similar lighting and was a short local trip I'll acclimate faster like a week or so.

I just basically watch the piece and see what it's doing.. Going slow never hurt anything, especially if you have a par reading of 300 in the spot you have it now. If your sand bed is sup par intensity wise then I could see that an extended stay could lead to some browning etc, but obviously you don't have to worry about the because you can grow a colony at that intensity lol.
