Question on new Zoas..

LoL you thought i was joking? the polytoxin also has the longest strain of carbon atoms in the world as well. Or something liek that. BTW what happen to the "..." thread? they moved it or deleted it or something...

they deleted it, No..I know you werent joking I've read about it awhile back, and didnt know if this was actually it. I know you pretty educated Gimp, I trust you.

I have heard about this myself. Yet i still touch my zoos all the time. Knock on wood i havent had any bad affects. I know your supposed to wear gloves and wear goggles when handling them. Hopefully it isnt toxin and doesnt harm your tank. Hope its just mating season for you.

These are the zoas in question, I really do hope they are just mating...

I dont know. I just tried googling it and didnt see anything for reproducing that way. I saw 2 ways which are 1 they grow on a mat and the other they bud off each other. But i did read that alot of zoas toxin wont hurt other corals. I have seen other coral picks on here releasing a smoke like that. I think it may be because it was stressed from shipping. Kinda similar to the slimey stuff corals put out. I have a frag of zoas that my serpent stars keep knocking down that i finally glued last night but i was touching them all the time with nothing hurting me. I found this link that was pretty informative on zoas. Read it the quick glance i took at it was pretty good. http://www.reefs.org/library/aquarium_net/0198/0198_1.html

Consider 1 of your lights sold i will pick it up this weekend if thats good with you.

Yeah, im not sure how much polytoxin they release (as in volume) but i know it doesn't take much at all. But as far as touching it, you should be safe as long as it doesnt enter your body and usually you have to irritate zoa's quite a bit to get them to react, other wise their first response is just to retract. I'm not that smart joey, i learn it all from you guys :P

I cant believe they deleted my al bundy pics...

Those are awsome. Where did you get all your zoas from?

These are the same as my frag that i had to keep picking up. They are similar to the 4th pick in your other post except they have solid orange centers. Sorry for the pick quality im behind the times and used my phone for the pick.

^^^^^ Frag of these available for trade.30+ polyps....:D

Oh another thing that the smoke could be, is just a slothing of the outter muscus membrane? this is just a far fetched guess, but i know mushrooms will do it and many other corals like TTrex. I wouldn't think they reproduce by sperm and egg.....I thought they only grow in mats (once agian like ttrex stated). I could be wrong of course.

These Zoanthids are named Creamsicles, I just received them today as I said earlier. I've kept zoas for awhile now, they were one of my first corals and touched them millions of times. I've vene fragged plenty of them and all...
This (from the first pictures) that I saw today scared the crap out of me. I never saw a frag let out stuff like that. I am way more cautious and alert. After seeing that I almost...did the ugly, did away with zoas. But thanks to all the great feedback, Im back in..and ready to order more! Thanks all. Gimp your a smart dude man. Mike, I'll keep you in mind-when it comes fraggin time! TTRex, I'll shoot you a PM with my number for the lights, Thanks for the link, still reading it all.

Thanks Joey,

you do indeed have quite a Zoa collection. I actually have some really large colonies that i got from Pamike or TMike, i dont know which one since the names are so fimiliar. But i hav ea bunch that are growing on the mounts already and almost ready to be sold. heres a few pics joey, ill giv eoyu first dibs if you're intrested (of course trades are always entertained)

I have a really crappy camera so excuse the lack of detail or true color.

I love some Zoos

I love some Zoos

If anyone have some Zoos to sell, please let me know.

Looking for colors:D

Pedro

You Welcome Gimplar, and the names are TAmike and pmike, I know what you mean the names being close...Thats a nice looking dori, you got there. The green and golds look awesome...I cant trade right now due to my frags being so small, but I will definately let you know when they are fragable. Thanks.

Pedro, everyone one of my zoas I bought off the coral selling forum right here on R/C. That would be the best way of getting you some beautiful colors. And the service received by all the members was awesome. I only lost one frag in shipping and it was replaced bythe seller.

Ya know Joe, I think with a new baby and all, those zoas may be to risky to have in your house. Keith and I would be more than willing to take those toxic things of your hands.. :)

Tracy, they could've been ALL yours  ...I was really considering that yesterday;) It's not even the new born, its my 2yr old tornado, he gets into everything no matter what...Thanks for the concern and the great offer...:D
But Im a Zoa keeper for life...
:bounce1: :bounce3:  :bounce3: :bounce1:

You're welcome...lol...actually, we wouldn't have let it get that far, we'd have talked some sense into ya..You know though, we do have this large button rock that everytime Keith moves it, he gets sick. Like the flu. Weird...
