Recently, I just switched from acrylic to glass. I placed all of my live rock in a rubbermaid container with a heater and canister filter to keep things warm and clean. I also hung my light fixture over the container to keep the lighting cycle the same.
After I got the new tank all plumbed and ready to go, I filled it with RO water, heated it up and placed the live rock back in the new aquarium. I setup my refugium with a new DSB with seeded sand from my old tank. There is a large piece of Chaeto in the fuge. It is actually growing rapidly under my 19W (5700K) lamp. I have experienced a slight algae bloom (mostly brown and green film) on the bottom which is BB and on the rocks. The few snails I have are making dents in the growth but it seems to be getting worse day after day. I tested my water and there is absolutely no phosphates but I did not test for nitrates to see if the tank is going through another cycle.
Is this algae bloom normal when restaring the tank? Is it going to have to go through a complete cycle with the seeded sandbed and cultured LR? I did recently change to 14K Phoenix MH lamps and they are only two weeks old, so I don't think it is the lighting.
Any help on this is appreciated.
