Question Re: Water in Gulf of Mexico/Hurricane Isaac

I'm watching the weather channel and they are saying that the way the storm is moving it is pushing saltwater from the Gulf up the Mississippi River which is freshwater.

How does this impact fish in the Mississippi River?

I would expect that the Mississippi has brackish water that far south. The tides are smaller in the Gulf than the Atlantic but the Hudson is slightly salty as far north as Albany.

Also the fish will move upstream. Before radar and satellite many local in the Florida Keys would use migration of fish to help predict hurricanes.
