Question regarding 6060's

Good afternoon Roger,
I have (2) 6060's in my 210 gallon reef tank, and over the past few weeks their output flow has diminished.
I have taken them apart for a thorough cleaning, yet the water movement is still not up the the original level.
John from "Fish and Other Ickhy Stuff" suggested that the new "single piece" impeller may improve the unit performance.

Any suggestions?

Thanks...Mark

The single piece propeller doesn't work on a 6060, most people ignore the upper bearing and think it is part of the magnetic rotor and this is the usual cause of reduced performance- make sure it is clean and the magnet spins freely on it. Also be sure the intake screen is clean. Besides thisI think a large part of it is habituation to the flow, these pumps run at 3600 rpm and unless their is high friction from warn or sticking parts or the prop is damaged or the screen is clooged it just isn't possible for the flow to be reduced.

Thanks for the quick response...
This week , one of the units was not working, so I took it out for a thorough cleaning. After cleaning, Ie resinserted the impeller and it seemed to "stick" and did not rotate. I then manually rotated it with my finger until it started. It is now working, but I want to make everything stays "OK".
Do you suggest another deep cleaning ???
Should I be soaking it in anything to dissolve any build-ups ???
Thanks again

Yes, soak it in vinegar but be sure to be familiar with the upper bearing and magnetic rotor, look at them in the manual, people often see them fused and assume they are one piece.
