Question(s) for Dr. Caldwell

Okay, I understand that these guys have great vision, but damn, did that mantis really solve the rubik's cube? I can't even do that myself!

Okay, for the 'real' question. Is there a place I can look that will give me various information on the different species of mantids, such as colors, sizes, geographic distribution, tail shapes, etc?

I'd like to learn more about these guys, now that my only remaining fish has been moved to another tank. I want to keep an eye out for the one that's in the main tank so that I can ID it, and maybe keep it.

Scott

P.S. Having thumbed through this site, and your faculty site, I wanted to say Thank You for the time you must spend here. I know how busy teaching/research faculty are. You must really love stomatopods to do this. Thanks!

I've skimmed over that website, and it's pretty good for some basic mantis info, but not species specific. The photos are listed by species, so at least I could get some colors from that, but there isn't a lot of specific details like I mentioned that I'd like. Another reason is that I write articles for a local aquarium group, and I'd like to write one on the mantis, so I need some good information.

Thanks for the link, though.

ive been searching the internet for some time on mantis. blueboard is about the best i have found. if you want more specefic info i would check out the reference section on that site. he lists all of the reference books he used to get all that info. you could prolly order most anything from barnes and noble or maybe in the net. good luck!!

BTW, if you do find a good site post it here to share with the rest of us.

I've found a few other sites with bits and pieces of info here and there, but not much in one place. Hopefully, Dr. Caldwell will write a book when he retires! :)
