Hey Guys/Girls, I've been having this question on my mind all day. I'm a Junior student, and in my class we're talking about Coral Reef tanks. And my question to you all is: Does the reverse osmosis and deionization both go inside the tank or outside? Please let me know (: Have a nice day!

Not sure I fully understand the question, but here is my answer. reverse osmosis and deionization (RO/DI) is a process of removing harmful elements fro the water that will go ito the tank and is done prior to adding salt mix. RO/DI is a process that removes TDS (total dissoved solids from the water

Agreed ^^^ and also is usually outside the tank. Usually the hobbyist will have the good water going into a Brute container to be prep for use.

People usually use an RO/DI to make pure water (fresh) and store it.

Then they use it to replace water that evaporates from the tank on a daily basis. The evaporation leave the salt behind in the tank, so only fresh water is added.

Or they mix salt with the water and use it to replace salt water they remove from the tank. Things in the tank use chemicals from the saltwater, so every week or two you remove some of the old water (like 5% to 20%) and replace it with new saltwater. This is called a water change. In many bigger systems with lots of coral, some people do less water changes and just supplement the water in the aquarium with additional chemicals.
