Question?

I found a nice deal around here, and I am wondering how to get a 125 gallon tank from Point A to Point B (15 minute drive). It is on a stand with all of the equipment and livestock! It would be nice to keep everything assembled, but maybe impossible... Any ideas??

you will have to break the tank down to empty due to the weight and also you want to move all the corals and live stock seperate to keep the stress level down low.

If you want to bring the water, I'd maybe bring about half. You can transport it in buckets and other 5 gal containers. The other half I would waste. Set up the old water in rubbermaid tubs at your house, plop in some power heads and heaters, and then you can transport any corals / livestock from the tank and put them into the rubbermaids. Then ditch the sand (or save it for a project like making LR pillars :)) and transport the LR, the tank, stand, etc. Get that all to your house, set it all up and test it for leaks. When the tank is good to go, transfer over your livestock. That's a rough sketch of how I'd do it. If you want some help, let me know. If I'm available, I'm happy to lend a hand. The above process can easily take a few days.

if you have some large garbage containers you can get large heavy duty trash bags to line the cans and tie the top to stop splash. use pumps to take water from tank to the trailer with the cans and then from the trailer to the house. Also a rubber maid is a great thing to have for moving corals too.

OK, why are you ditching the sand? Not good to reuse a sandbed?
I was thinking of getting a sandbed for someone, but don't want to put my new setup in jepardy just to save a few bucks:eek1:

The general rule (as it seems to be) is avoid moving/reusing a sandbed like the plague. It appears to be the assumed culprit in a lot of algae problems (pretty sure it was the cause of ours). It sucks to spend the money on new sand when you have "perfectly fine" sand that you can use, but it's the process of stirring everything up that seems to cause the problems...

A few cups of sand to seed a new bed are fine. Reusing all the sand in an established tank can get you in trouble because of all of the gunk built up in the bed gets released when it gets stirred up.

Also, should I use the other half for the livestock? Also, I was kinda thinking selling or trading in their livestock, so I can pick my own. Is this a bad idea?

Not if they're healthy. :)

I just traded in two PJ Cardinals for credit toward a Coral Beauty. I would call in and ask first, though. I did, and when I got there asking about it, they asked me who I talked to... so its a good idea to call and check first. This was at the Critter, BTW.

The tank will likely not undergo a cycle as a result of the move, unless you leave things sitting out in the air too long, or do something that kills a bunch of stuff off.
