Was wondering if anyone knew if mini luminarcs can handle a SE bulb and what the dimensions were? Where they could be purchased and maybe I could really get luck and someone here close could have 3 they want to sell or trade. Basically I'm going to tear my tank down and change my T5 system back to MH 250's HQI x 3 if anyone has in good ideas LMK, also want some type of supplementary lighting, not sure what but do not want T5's ... That being said, I also have a 6' fixture from Aquatenics 14 bulb T5 for sell, 750.00$ withh all the bulbs I have, some new, some not as well as a never used hanging kit, FCFS. Doc

so you are going to go with SE on 250w HQI ballasts? i'm assuming radiums?

IMO, ditch the HQI ballasts and just go with icecaps, that will give you a better bulb selection and not over drive them either. I am going to switch my HQI ballast out to an icecap as soon as I get the chance, my lps don't like the intense light put out by the HQI ballast....and my acros look too light IMO.

actually, thats not a bad deal.

my tank is 20" deep, and my chalices and acans can't sit in direct light even in the sand. i'm going to switch to icecaps so i can get some better bulb choices, and not over drive the bulbs. over driving the radium with the HQI ballast means i need to replace it every 8 months or so.

i just don't think i really need that extra output from the HQI ballast.
