Hi all

I have a pair of tomato fish. one is very big and the other is smaller. tank size 40Littre (10 Gallon). they ar alone in the tank.

questions :

1. How can I know that they are good couple for breeding?
2. I look at the male kissing the rocks few times. is he cleaning the surface for eggs?
3. Is it good to give them a lot of food (to make them spawn)?
4.How long should the light be ON during the day?
5. when the couple go to sleep, they do not sleep together. (few inches on from each other) is it OK? or they should be allways together if they are going to spawn?
6. the female is allways pushing the male? is it something indicating for a good couple that is going to spawn?

Not to seem to give the cookie cutter response... but pick up Joyce Wilkersons clownfish book, it is a must read for anyone wanting to breed clowns.

How long have you had the pair? Did you get them as a mated pair or pair them yourselves? Feed a variety of foods, including frozen meaty foods like mysis, brine, krill, ect. When they are ready to spawn, the fish will clean a surface... and lay eggs.. to decide if they are a good pair, will decide on how they lay nests... time will tell. I also would say maybe a larger tank would be helpful, tomato females get about 6 inches or so. A 10 might work... just keep in mind if you see a cheap tank go for sale locally...
