Questions about chemi-pure

Hey everyone,
I know alot of you have used Chemi-Pure, as have I, but I don't seem to get the most out of it using it in my Tidepool II sump (I know, shoulda went with a different sump.) My question to all of you is this...can I open the bag of chemi-pure and use it in a reactor?

The instructions say not to open bag, but It seems that I had heard of someone, somewhere saying that they had and it worked really well. Any advice would be appreciated!

Its life span depends on the condition of the water. If water quality is high then 3 to 6 months.If low then days or weeks. You need to rinse it regularly as it can collect nitrate.

Its use is easly seen from ammonia control and water clarity.
