Questions about Chromis possible Uronema

misadventure

New member
I have a 55 gallon tank and bought two Green Chromis to accompany the single one I already had. They died quickly (one I euthanized because he looked awful) and their symptoms seem to match Uronema after researching on these forums. My last original Chromis now has red areas and I am wondering what the best course of treatment for him is, if any. I'm giving him a 1 hour Paraguard dip now, but not sure if a freshwater dip may be better? I have a Pink Skunk Clown, Tomato Clown, Neon Dottyback, Banggai Cardinal, and Lawnmower Blenny. Also have a Cleaner Shrimp and a couple Nassarius Snails. So I'm guessing there's nothing I can dose the tank with that won't kill inverts... Would it perhaps be worth donating the shrimp and snails to someone in order to treat tank? So far no other fish besides Chromis seem sick...

Also I am going to set up a quarantine tank (I know, I should have had one). Would it make more sense to start the QT completely new or use water and live rock from my display tank (and then medicate it all preventatively)? Thank you!!

I've encountered fish with urenema, I've tried formalin baths (they help) quinine sulfate seems to work. Its an odd parasite and seems to have a long life cycle and will always be in your system unless everything is sterilized (fallow period won't work) remove the current sick fish.

I prefer not using lr in QT being it can absorb medications and cause ammonia spikes due to die off. I prefer a sterile tank with sponge filter and instant ocean bio spira.
