Questions about Frag Swap

Is the plan to have these purchases decided before the meet and then exchange there or are you just showing what you'll be or could be bringing?

My tank is relatively new and I need some advice before I commit to buying anything, but I'm ready to try something colorful and hardy if those with experience thinks it's ok. I'm not trying to waste my money or buy something just to see it die.

I will also be bringing sample of water for any tests anyone has to test it with. How long will a water sample stay testable? Will 24 hrs in a cup or baggie be too long? I'm assuming the fresher the better, right?

Also, how are the frags packaged and whats the proper way to acclimate them before placing in the tank? How long will the frag be ok in the packaging before it must be in a tank?

One question off the subject. Is there a shrimp that will clean algae off the LR? If not, besides crabs and snails, is there anything else?

Sometimes purchases are decided before the auction, but there is always plenty of stuff to bid on. If you see something you want, send them a PM and maybe they can have a frag set aside for you.

Don't worry about the advice that you need before buying something. Usually the way we do it is the person that is selling holds up the frag, passes it around, and explains what type of care/lighting it needs. If they are really prepared they will bring pics to show how it looks (usually the frags are all closed up so you cant see how they really look).

I would guess that 24 hours would be too long, I'd just bag some up when you're on the way if you can.

We all take frags in different ways, usually in small containers that will seal and not leak (like tupperware or something, but cheaper). Bag them if you want, as long as it wont leak. Different corals need different acclimation, but I usually drip all of mine. We can also explain that there... Maybe a great topic for Frank? :)

Not too sure about the shrimp, I usually just get peppermint shrimp if I ever get aptasia. Otherwise you can try crabs and snails. Even better, good water quality. :)
