Questions about JBJ ATO

Im looking to buy a top off system for my tank. This one looked really nice but I have some questions for the people that have them.
First of all what kind of pump do you use?
Also will it work the way I want it to, becuase all I want to do is have like a 10gal rubbermaid tub, put the pump in there and then have the 2 sensors in my sump. And just have a small flexible tub run the water into the sump

i think those ATOs are made to do kinda what you want. you place a pump in the 10g tub, then place one sensor in the sump. that sensor is to let the pump come on then shut off when full. then the other sensor goes into the 10g tub. it will allow the pump to come on as long as theres water in the tub. that way you dont burn up the pump

I have the exact same setup that you are trying to create, except I have a 20 gallon reserve. I use a maxi jet 1200 and 1/2" vinyl tubing. If you do it thus way just make sure that the outlet is about he water level in the sump or it will back-siphon water into your reserve. Oh yeah... The JBJ ATO is great! It makes top-off so much easier. All you have to do is make sure that the reserve stays full. Good luck. HTH

you can use any type of pump you want. but theres no sense in getting a huge pump to move a cupfull or two of water .

I have the JBJ ATO and I would recommend it - it works great.

I use the MiniJet 404 pump - you only need low flow pump. Here is a link for the pump:

Regarding back syphoning from the sump, do not submerge the oulet tube from the pump and it won't/can't back syphon from the sump to the resevoir.

Yup. That is the one that I have.have it suctioned to the bottom.
