I picked up, what I believe is Tridacna Maximus (please correct me if I'm wrong), which is about 3-4" in length. It looked very healthy in the LFS, open, not gaping, nice color. It's been in my tank a couple of days, and still hasn't opened like in the store. Before placing it in my tank, I did acclimate for temp and to my water parameters. It's on the bottom of a 24" deep 120 resting in a nice curved piece if rock to attach to. Lighting is 2 250HQI MH and 4 T5's. Tank is about 2 years old, water parameters are fine. Is there any thing I should be concerned about?

Ok....

Anyway, the clam is opening up a little more each day, so I'm hoping it's just acclimating himself slowly.

Better, thanks. Once it attached to the mounting rock, I've moved it mid height in the tank. Opening a little more each day.
My tank is SPS dominant. Plenty of flow, but none directly on the clam. The mantle moves, but doesn't flop over.
I have 4 MP40 in a 120g 48"x24"x24".

Check for tiny white snails near/on it's foot and rest of the shell. Use a toothbrush to get them off if you see them.

Assuming the clam don't have pinched mantle disease sometimes that also prevents them from opening fully.

Good luck!

isseym328,

Thanks, all good suggestions on what to look for.
Prior to adding to my tank, I went over the entire outside with a magnifying glass and didn't find any.
It's been opening a little more each day, my thought is that it just needs to get acclimated at it's own pace.

I'll snap a pic tonight.

Current tank parameters. Everything looks in-line.

Hope you enjoy your clam. I've had my maxima three years now and it's fmgrown from 2" to 5" they're so awesome. Just make sure it gets plenty of light

Thanks, it's looking great now. Just needed time to adjust. It's under (2) 250W DE Metal Halides so I don't think light will be an issue.
