Questions on Ich

hi folks,
I recently converted to FOWLR from a reef, sold everything reef related & decided to perform a "cleansing" of the entire system. before I started doing hyposalinity on the main system only the Hybrid Tang was showing signs of ich. I followed the procedures on the sticky post on performing Hypo keeping a close eye on Ph. I have a refractometer to keep track of Salinity. I have reached my target of 1.009 Ph 8.03-8.10 and temp is @ 82 *F from 80* F (just to speed things along).

Now I have noticed ich on my Emperor Angel but everyone is still eating well. Plus the water seems to be a bit cloudy. I suspect that ich would multiply first before I see them kill off, but should I see the water cloudy?

Im thinking something is dying off and making your water cloudy. Also i thought hypo was supposed to be done in a seperate tank while the display lays fallow for 8 weeks.

Chris is right. It's die off in the LR that is causing the cloudy water. Watch for ammonia spikes. Water changes and amquel will help with those.

A skimmer won't work at such a low level of salinity. You need to go old school with a filter and an airstone until you get back up to about .016 or so. You can actually turn off the skimmer once you have the filter and stone going.

Yup, the skimmer won't really work at that low a salinity. However, it will help with oxygenation due to all those bubbles

Dex use any big hob filter or even a couple of cultured sponge filters. I think i have one if you need it. Marineland (cant remember the number LOL i used it on my 110 gallon tank

Wow im on a roll! Im right twice in 2 days! Dex we wont even get on the pee water subject. Im going to market my own ick medicine but it wont be pee!
I came to the conclusion i should have left it all alone and let it run its coarse.

Im actually very optomistic about hypo, so far so good. Plus Im saving a ton on salt.

I added Amquel, really slowly to control my Ammonia spike. after the recent water change my water is alot clearer. I did notice the fish are calmer, less scratching activities....man I miss my reef.

I don't understand why my Aqua C Remora Pro is putting out just as much skimmate now at 1.009sg on my QT as it does when it's not under hypo at 1.025.
