Quick Help to Save

This anemone had been in the tank for years. It looked fine last night and my wife woke up to it this morning looking bad. She said the foot had turned loose so I had her put it into a bucket until I got home. Here is the pic. Is it gonna make it and what can I do to help.

Sometimes anemones can deflate, puke their guts out, shrivel up into nothing or float off and disappear for days. If its been in the tank for more than a month it's always better to let it be unless it's obviously dead. Removing it and placing in a bucket might protect your tank but it will not help the anemone, more likely it will do the opposite. I would try to put it back into the tank in a low flow area and watch it closely. Until it is actually dead it's not going to hurt your tank.

Ok when got home I put it back in the tank. I think it was a good sign that it was attached to the bottom of the bucket. I guess only time will tell.

You need to look at your tank. Happy LTA will never move. It look like your's pick up and move. Check and see why. Maybe you are not as diligent at changing your water. Maybe the current change due to coral growth, maybe.......

I just rearranged my rock so he was moving to find a place a think. Looks 100 percent better today. He is really getting to big for my tank but don't know anyone who wants it.

This is very important information that should have been given the first post, IMO.

I agree, moving rock around can cause a spike in the system. I move my rock a lot, but my tank is super clean. If you don't keep up with regular mainteance, detritus, etc... will get released into the water column and cause issues.

Can we see a picture of the LTA today? He may need treatment.

Defiantly puffing back up. Not back to normal but looking tons better. When fully inflated I bet it's 12 to 14 inches across.

Rock work had been redone 2 weeks ago and he had been in the same spot for about a week. I guess he was not happy.

Hold on treatment. He looks like he will be ok. Just watch him. Keep reporting back with pictures so we can keep some eyes on him.

I'm glad it's looking better. It's always a good thing to be cautious when it comes to your tank. Something overlooked for only a short time can cause serious problems. Anemones are crazy creatures and like I said earlier can and will do crazy things. Now that we know it was moving around because you changed the rock around its a completely different story. I keep a written log of everything I do to my tanks so if something happens I can always look back like a detective to see if I might of caused the problem. It's helped me many times.
