Quick plumbing question about Eheim 1262

Hi

I just recieved my new pump in the mail and i was looking at the threaded adaptor and cant seem to figure out what the light grey part does. (NOOBIE AT PLUMBING) It doesnt make sense to put hose in there it wouldnt be able to screw in i dont think

From that pic, that piece will thread into the pump, the hose fits over the barbed end, then the nut threads up to lock the hose on. Hand tighten the nut only.

I just checked mine the nut actually threads down. I never used my piece I just put a piece of flex hose on and tightened it down with a plastic clamp.

I guess I should clarify. The nut comes completely off. I took it off completely. Then just used a short piece of flex tubing and connected to the PVC plumbing. They make barbed end PVC that work for that. I got mine at Lowes. Hope this helps.

okay so the light grey part is a nut to tighten the hose in?

It seems pretty flush with the thread but I havent tested it with a hose. Ill give it a try, but if not I will hook it to a tube and then use a clamp. is 3/4 tubbing okay or should i go for 1 inch for my return. I wanna plumb it into a manifold.

Also for the intake, if i wanna run it externally, what size bulkhead and plumbing should i use to drill into my sump.

The size of the return will depend on your setup to match the overflow and provide adequate flow. I have a 125 gallon tank with a 75 gallon sump and I used 1 inch PVC.

My Eheim I used submersed so I can't speak to the external use of the pump.

That gray nut will act as a clamp, start with the nut completely screwed in, then slide the hose over the barb as far a possible then turn the nut counterclockwise or unscrew then the nut moves over the hose and gets thigh over it. Thus making a better seal over the barb.
