quick question...

ok so my black adn white clownfish is acting weird around my toadstool leather. every now and then (every 5-10 mintues or so) he will go into my toadstool leather but only briefly, for like 2-5 seconds, then he will swim off and repeat this. is this what clowns do before they host, or do they just suddenly host straight away. BTW he isn't sleeping in it at night

Sounds like your clownfish is building up a mucus to tolerate the toadstool leather.

yay, but then he started to host this weird algae on the back right corner, so i took it away and he starte to go back to the toadstool. i am guessing that he is going to host then. thanks for the help

Is your clown a black Ocellaris?

Clowns host a bunch of silly things, like powerheads, and magfloats. Sometimes they'll host corals even with an anemone in the tank. They're fun like that. I hope he warms up to that toadstool for you! It's really neat to see them hosting.

Percs and Ocellaris ususally only tend to have this type of behavior though.

Because Ocellaris tend to do this. Your description of your clownfish could have been the one in my avatar and it would have been pretty interesting to se a Clarkii host a leather.

i am attempting the picture method to try and get my clown to host. i will update you if anything happens

ok i fed the fish, and then 30 mins later i watched the clown, and he was shoving his face right in the toasdstool looking for food, and it didn't look like he was getting stung. This should mean he has the protective mucus but he only does for about an hour after i have fed

i fed my corals with their phtyoplankton, and i poored it directly on the toadstool, and all my fish went to it, my shrimp went to it, and my clown was acting like he was hosting, but then he swam off, and now i am typing this, so i don't know what he is doing now, but i will update and see if it has affected him
