i have this stuff its called FIX it STICK made by oatey its says its a all purpose bonding putty .i was wondering if i could use it in the tank to mount some rocks together. it says it only has a couple hazzeradous ingredients - bispenol a diglcidyl ether resin, cryastalline silica and glass oxide its in like a two part you have to roll in your hands to activate it says it hardens to stell in min. its use is on pvc pipe to fix leakes and other stuff of that nature im not sure if it would be safe i would like to know what you guys thnk?

...better safe than sorry IMO. A couple hazardous materials is too many...ONE is too many! I'd steer clear...

ok thats what i was thinking i was useing it on a buddys car to fill in a rust mark and you can sand this stuff down and paint over it so thats what i was useing it for.

You can use epoxy from home depot that is ok for potable water. I think they sell 2 of them, about $4 each.

You could also get a stick of it at Aquaworld. I think it is around $10 for twice as much as the home depot stuff.

this stuff is made for water its complely water proof and i did get it from home depot and it was 4 bucks for a stick lol maybe were talken about the same stuff it was in the pvc area.

but you need to make sure it is good for potable (drinkable) water. just because it says it is waterproof, it doesn't mean that it is ok for drinking or rather that something can live in the water.

For my piece of mind, I'd just go with the stuff that is sold to be reef safe unless I know otherwise. I've used GE Silicon #1 from Lowes rather than paying a fortune for aquarium safe silicon from the LFS. I only did it because that specific brand has been stated everywhere I researched to be safe for our applications.

There are 2 I have used from Home Depot.

The one is green and white and is the same stuff you can buy for the aquarium. It is called Aquamend. I also used another one that is for plumbing and safe for potable water. I don't remember the name, but it was gray and white. The green and white has a workable time of 25 mintues, the gray and white has a workable time of only 3 mintues so it sets much much faster.

Sounds like the 2 sticks I've bought from LFS. If the rocks are of a decent size, you might want to try acrylic rods rather than Epoxy.

the stuff i have is whitish gray out side and green inside and has a workable time of 4 mins i beleve it was. Im goin to do research on it befor i decide anything if anyone else can find anything on it befor i do PLEASE let me know.
