Quickly built my Algae scrubber the other day.....

So I finally got it together after much research and looking at how to add it to my system. For the $10.00 total investment it cost I figured it was worth a shot to see how well it could perform. I still need to build the acrylic box around it and mount up the LED's I will use on both sides.
So far its been up and running for about 3 days, and though I don't expect much growth just yet I am seeing the knitting pad discolor slightly. I'm hoping I could finally get off the GFO completely. Only time will tell.

Anyone else have experience with these? How are they working for you? Pictures of the setup are always welcome. Here are a few I took quick of mine.

I have my algae turf scrubber (ATS) over my refugium....only problem is that it competes with the refugium for nutrients so as a result my macro algae does not grow. I am trying to rectify this by decreasing the light period for the ATS and increasing the light period over the macro. I get great algae growth on the ATS but I still use my dual reactor w/GFO and GAC.
See my system below:

I'm thinking of building one of these but my only concern is that it will be loud. Any comments on the noise level or hints to prevent noise

Well mine is in my basement refugium, So sound was never a concern for me. But, from all my reading on these I know the bottom of the scrubber has to be in the water. When its operating correctly it should have a continuous sheet of water and it will be smooth. The sheet of water enters the water below smooth and has very little noise. Id try to take a sound clip but the rest of my pumps are louder and you would not hear it. lol

The only noise I get is when I turn the return valve way down, (after the ATF has started to accumulate algae and the 3/4" pvc starts to get partially clogged)....this causes heavy vibration since the pump sits on a wood frame. Other than that the noise is minimal.

If you extend the screen into the water it will run pretty silently.
