quiet in sump return pump?

I have a mag 7 and it is a bit louder than I like.
Does anyone have any experience with another
internal sump pump that is quiet.
Does tunze make an internal sump pump.
My Nano Stream is dead quiet.
I would love a return pump that quiet.
Thanks for your time.

I have experience with eheims, which are very quiet, and now with an ocean runner 2500. It is very quiet as well.

I have used an eheim 1250, and an eheim 1262. I just started using an Ocean Runner 2500 a couple of weeks ago and am very pleased with it so far. My Eheim 1250 is now running water through a carbon filter.

I was looking at the eheim 1260 for an in sump return pump after reading all of the good things about it. Are you guys having any heat issues since they are water cooled, or do they run pretty cool? I am setting up a 90 gal and am worried about the heat. I've been going back and forth between an in line and in sump. Sorry to hijack you're thread, but this may help in your decision too?? Thanks.

I haven't had any issues with heat. That is actually one reason I decided to try the OR 2500 over the Eheim 1260. A) it was cheaper for the same flow, and B) it only uses 38 Watts instead of 65 Watts. It is extremely quiet, and I could almost buy 3 OR 2500s for the cost of one Eheim 1260. I figured it was worth a try, and so far I am really impressed.

I went w/ o.r.'s also. I have 2-3500-1 return,1 for c.l., & a 2700 for a diy pvc skimmer. They make NO noise at all. OOPs, I still have them in the cardboard box. I'm still setting my tank up.
I heard very good things about them, that is why I went w/ them. I was looking at quiet one pumps, but heard some bad things about them fyi. I also heard GREAT things about the eheim's, all but the price.
I would say it depend on how much you want to spend.
Good luck,
Chris

I use a

I use a

Via Aqua 2600 and it is silent when stuck to my sump bottom with suction cups. It is cheap and has ran perfect!

ehiem - I run a 1262 for return and 1260 for skimmer - all I have ever used - I usually run them externally and you can barely feel any warmth as you touch them anywhere - and not sure how you can get any quieter. If they emit any noise, its because they are vibrating against whatever they are sitting on. not sure how much flow I am getting at 5 foot head, 3 90 degree turns, thru chiller 30 foot run - but is enough for me. like this, you won't get enough water wave movement of course. That's why I have the tunze

Great replies, thank you all.
I see that there are suction cups
at the bottom of the OR pumps.
Is that the secret to the silence?
The Eheim looks like a mag.
Anyone know what the differences
are? Also, one of my main concerns is
the damn humming. That is usually
what I hear from the Mag7 and
it is loud when you are sitting there
trying to read.

Both the Eheims and the OR pumps don't have that humming as long as they are not directly bumping any surfaces in the sump. IME with both eheim and the OR pumps, I have no problem with a hum. I will say that I glued on a bracket and put rubber suction cups on my eheim 1250 to keep it from humming. The OR comes with this out of the box. Both pumps are basically silent in my tank. My OR 2500 is quieter than my Eheim 1250 -- but to hear either one I have to have my head inside the stand, and I have to focus on them to try and hear. Outside the stand, even with the doors open, I can't hear either one.

The mag is a loud pump, period. No real way to make it quiet that I know of.
