Quietest Computer Fan

Just looking around for some options for cooling my tank. Summer is coming along and I just wanted to see if people could recommend a good computer fan that pushes a lot of air and is pretty quiet. Thanks in advance.
 
scythes or noctuas is what i use for my computer. Scythes are pretty much dead silent IMO. Noctuas are just expensive :D
 
Generally you will be better served both in airflow and reduced noise by having more fans of a larger size. Stick with 120mm if you can.

Newegg has a good selection as well, and all of their fan data also includes noise levels.

Im using 3 scythes on my computers radiator and all i hear is the air moving .

Plus they have pretty gosh darn tootin amazing flow so..

thanks guys i got my last two fans from reef geek was going to order 6 more but im trying these out i take it they hold up to the salt i will save lots of money

I dont think any of them hold up to salt , no one really has the money for "fans designed" for just salt water tanks its all gimic .. How ever there are fans that have sealed bearings.
 
i bought a 12v power converter that plugs into the wall and connected them both to it by splicing the wires.

By the way if you make the fans blow in then fresh air is constantly blowing throuhg them and the salt water and moisture doesnt get to them.
 
thats perfect.....anything under 20db is pretty quiet. And anything over 50 cfm is pushing a lot of air.

I would have bought a 120mm fan but the hole saw I have is 3" and I didnt feel like buying another bit for $25. So I put in two 32cfm fans and both are 14db each. I can barely hear both fans running

When I was looking for quet fans I didn't go by specs. I checked out reviews and users comments at sites like Silent PC Review. I was looking at that fan and it did not get good reviews from those sites.
 
Perhaps I'm not looking the right places. So far every review I've read have been somewhat positive. Can you point me in a the right direction?
 
I was actually looking at some of these "quiet" fans they boast on their forums...but I'm confused how they rate these the best when specs are like greater than 30dB.
 
You have to pretty much ignore specs. Airflow and noise ratings Vs actual are not the same. I spent some time on the SPCR site both on the reviews and the user forums. People who tried the Silent Cat likened them to a vacuum cleaner. The Stealth fans are called less than stealthy and dont even make it to the reviews. I relied on sites like this when building silent/quiet PCs and went back there when looking for fans for the canopy. Another thing to watch for is airflow. There are some very quiet fans out there that dont move much air at all. That is pretty easy to do. What is difficult is to have a fan that is both quiet and moves some air.
