Quietest pump?

I just put an OR 2500 on my 55 and it is by far more quiet than my QO 3000. I cant hear the pump over my skimmer. what did you use for your neoprene pad and can it be placed in the water?.

zoomfish1: If you dont want to spend the cash on a new pump, you can try to isolate the pump from the stand. The vibrations will go through the screws into the stand and make lots of noise; if you remove the screws and set the pump on something that will dampen the vibration (a lot of people use mouse pads) it will reduce the noise significantly. Also isolating the plumbing of the CLS from the tank and any other hard surface will prevent the rattling/buzzing sound.

or you can suspend it with some thin wire, less then an inch from the bottom. that will eliminate almost all noise.

but the Poseidon Titanium pumps are the absolute quietest pumps out there.

pan world pumps are pretty quiet, too.

CapitalO, I think I will try that. I screwed the mounting plate down to the stand and then slid the pump onto it. I'll try unscrewing the base and do away with it completely. I have a spare mousepad around. All makes sense.

Does the Ehiem have a threaded output?

the 1260 has a hose barb attachment that screws into a female threaded housing. if your going to hard plumb it you can go to any local hardware store and get the fitting you need.

Whenever someone ask the question "which pump is the quietest?" It's always the Eheim and the OR (from the submersibles that is) and I always thought it was in that order, I was under the impression that the Eheim's were quieter than the OR's but the OR's were a cheaper alternative. Is this correct? Has anyone owned both and can speak from experience.?
thanks
Felix

Any one owned both of these that can comment on my question?

I can, and yes the Ocean Runner is very quite. I sold one that was used it was a 2500, when the guy came over to look at it he asked me to plug it in to hear it run. Well when I plugged it in he said, is it running? I told him yes its on, not believing me he reached over and grabbed it in his hand just to make sure. I was even kinda taken back for a minute there, it's just that I never really knew these pumps had a rep for being quite.

Just finished installing my OR 2500, replaced a sedra 900. First impressions are that its dead silent. I now notice a lot of other noise that I never heard before. For instance my air intake for Euro Reef skimmer is the thing my wife notices now.

Couldn't be happier with it. Hopefully it is as durable as it is quiet.

Same thing for me, I had to install a silencer on the air intake of my Turboflotor since I could only hear it and not the 3 OR pumps running right next to it!

Wow i am impressed, let me ask you this i have a euroreef cs8-2 with a sp3 (sedra 5000) i wouldn't mind having a quieter pump on it. what do you suggest? something compatible to the sedra5000 or even a sedra 9000 which would be a nice upgrade as well, has anyone tried putting a needle wheel on an OR pump? thanks in advance.
