Quoyi parrotfish reef safe?

Will this parrot fish keep bryopsis algae under control?

I readily acknowledge that there are differences between fish and what is called byropsis.

However mine is hands down by far the best herbivore fish that I have ever owned. Mine does an excellant job on my byropsis. Far better than any tang that I have owned. However he tends to clean the rock about 2-3" above the bottom on up to the top of the rock work in the tank better than down low.

Recently, I had some zoas (including some LE Tyree that I got directly from Steve) and a few other things go MIA and I thought that he was the culprit. However when I removed my Sargassum Triger, I found out that he was the little muncher.

Well I think maybe the color loss was the first sign... eventually he just stopped eating, and sort of floated around like a zombie-fish? RIP... I really loved this guy, but he never seemed to do well in my tank (ie grow), even though he ate like a pig. Will be missed... those colors were amazing... and he was the only parrot fish I ever kept.

For folks with this experience, have you dewormed the fish with metro or lev? I ask because I have a caribbean striped parrotfish from LA/DD that had worms unaffected by prazi. Hex shield(metro laced pellets) seemed to take care of it.

:( Sorry for your loss, planning on trying another one in the future?

What are the signs of having these worms? No I didn't treat with that med, but he also showed no signs of having any worms :(

Sorry to hear about your loss Peter. I have also heard that these parrots seem to all come in with this issue although I was unaware that PP might not work. For the record mine didn't seem to grow when I had him either

PP seems to work perfectly for gill flukes, but misses a lot of intestinal worms. I didn't think much about this in the past, but after having and trying hex shield pellets, I am now giving a 3 day course to all my fish and seeing all the dead worms come out. After the treatment fish seem to start gaining weight very fast.

Not all fish are going to eat the hex shield, so what else do you suggest? I had a melanarus that I didn't feed for 3 months while trying to get it to eat the ich shield... It only ate one pellet total and I imagine it smells funny like the ich shield pellets do, therefore making it apparent to the fish something is a miss.

I train all my fish to take NLS pellets as a main food, and only offer mysis, etc as a treat so they took to hex shield easily. They won't eat much, but my fish never went on a hunger strike. Do your fish have other food available? It might be easier to do this in QT once they are eating well, so there isn't other food to snack on.
