R/O DI Warning

Alright, I know most of you guys have your own RO unit but I wanted to warn everyone else. I recently got 5 gallons of RO water from a very well established LFS in the Bird Road area in Mi-jammi. I tested the water with a TDS unit it it read 178ppm, YIKES!! I immedietaly got on the net and ordered a 5 stage RO/DI unit. Just becareful with the water you guys are getting from LFS or anywhere else.

Thanks for the heads up. I usually add a few drops of Prime water conditioner each week just as a precaution.

It has always been my opinion that making your own water is by far the best thing to do. LFS have great intentions but sometimes keeping up with filter changes on the RO/DI can be tedious and the water quality slips a little.

what is the container. Yours which had salt in it last? I know I seldom do much more then a quick rinse then if I were to add ro/di it should test pretty high.

i do know alot of LFS dont keep up with the RO changes let alone keep up with the DI cartridge changes. It safer and easier just to make your own,

Thank god for Key Biscayne, I get my water next to the light house on a tide coming in. Better than any salt mix and is free. tested that water and since there's corals growing there also it tells me is good quality water.

Same thing happened to me awhile back. I quit buying bottled water (which I was having no problems with, but was costing me $1.09/gallon) and started buying "RO" water from a supposedly reputable LFS in Boca Raton - BR - since it was $0.50/gal. I never thought they would steer me wrong, so I happily used their water for a few weeks until I started having ridiculous algae problems. Someone mentioned to test the TDS of my top off water. I didn't know what that was. I bought a meter, tested the water and OMG it read 187!! My fricken tap water is only like 160!! I was FLOORED! I called up, half screaming half crying because my issues were their fault! But it worked on their behalf, because I bought all kinds of crap to clear up the algae. I won't go back, unless for emergencies. I now buy bottled water again, with no problems to report. It took over 6 months to clear up the algae.

So I too, highly recommend testing all water from a LFS.

I cannot wait to buy a RO/DI system!!

Alright someone with a tds meter needs to test the stores. This could be a project for the next meeting. Everyone buy a gal of ro/di from there local fish store and then lets test it at the next meeting.

That will get lfs owners to keep tabs on there tds on the water they sell.
