got him on tues, hes med 2.5" by 2.5".............i thought for sure he would hide cuz of my powder blue and yellow tangs..........well, when i put him in, he went right to pecking at the rock, and my tank is loaded with aiptasia...........

the tangs gave him the biz as i expected , but he held his own and fought right back with his dorsal spikes........he never hid

but, since that first hour or two all hes done is swim back and forth against the front glass.............no exploring, no pecking, paying all the aiptasia no mind , and eating nothing i put in the tank, no brine or mysis or anything..............3 days now hes been doing this

cyanide maybe? got him from la..............funny thing, the last fish i got from them was a foxface, he was fine until one day about 4 months later he was dead...........mmmmmmm

is that what it is? cuz while hes doing this back and forth swimming the tangs arent bothering him, is it just their presence?

why wouldnt he move to the rock work

One of the benefits of qt is to allow stressed out new fish time to get relaxed and eating before having to deal with the fish in your display tank.

i know, i could also raise the clowns that lay every 2 weeks, i just dont have the room...............

Raising fry or letting the fish eat the fry is quite different than adding an adult fish to a bad situation.

As it is, you have two tangs (one of which needs a minimum 6' tank) in a 120 if your signature is correct.

It sounds as though this raccoon will die as your foxface did.

If you know you don't have the room to properly take care of new fish, perhaps you may want to not purchase any more until you can provide both a stress free acclimation for them and a display tank with adequate room for them.

wasnt aware a powder needed a 6', i go by what la says in the specs................why do fish die 4 months later even when eating..........is the stress a lasting thing or does it continue even tho its not visible?

I myself learned the hard way to always QT your new fish. An expert over at the Talking Reef forums, put it a good way. Your QT tank can be thought of like a little fishy spa, where you provide a stress free environment and help make sure your new fish is going to be able to put up with your others. I set mine up in a closet. Its simply a 20G tank with a powerhead and a piece of PVC for the fish to hide in. It doesn't have to get any more complicated than that, and you can just break the tank down when your done. To fill it up with water, just do a water change on your display and fill er on up.

maybe ill run out and get a small tank, i have plenty of saltwater, what bout temp , oxygenation, flow and stuff?

my parameters are fine, i tried brine, mysis, i even tried a frozen clam today, nothing...........4 days now no eating

A 29 gallon is a pretty common size and works great for qt, unless you have tangs in it.

Look in the classified such as Craigslist, your local RC forum and the Recycler for a used setup.

Most reefers have extra equipment such as powerheads, heaters, etc. that they can use in the qt tank.
