Radiata Lionfish - Need more info!

Hi,

a friend of mine is in the process of setting up a 6x2x2 with 30G sump total gallons 170. The tank is basically been set up to be built around/for the Radiata lion. Possible tank mates so far - 1 x Maroon Clown, 1 x Yellow Tang, 1 x Flame Angel.

We've both done much research on lions (inc. the fantatsic lionfish info sheet from RC) but all searches refer to 'all lions in general' as opposed to just one particular type, in this case the Radiata.

Can anyone who keeps this beautiful fish give any hints, tips etc on how to give it best possible care? general behaviour? Personality? any good links for the Radiata??? your/his tank mates??? or even better show us your Pics :) ???

Any help would be very much appreciated :)

Cheers,

its been a while since ive owned one but i could never find one that ate. be prepared to sustain live good as this is probably the most likely way to keep it healthy. good luck. this fish is my second favorite lion.

We have had four radiatas come into the store and none have made it more than two weeks. They just never seem to eat.

One of the harder lions to get to eat but still not difficult.
Some people have more trouble finding a healthy speciman than feeding. fish like this i rather let my lfs ship then moniter it there before i bring it home

Definitely put it on hold at your lfs and visit it for a while to make sure it is eating. Whne you do finally bring it home offer it live shrimp like ghost shrimp for a couple days to ensure it will eat then slowly ween it onto krill

Thanks for all the replys chaps its much appreciated.

I believe that all lions in general, particuarly Dwarfs are prone to one day deciding not to eat till death?

Interesting though as regards to the radiata. This may be the reason why then you dont often see them in lfs (well not here in the uk anyway). I think though for sure do as above in terms of buying one/feeding.

Any thing of their personality and/or behaviour?? Tnak mates???

Thanks again for the replys it is very appreciated.

Same as any lion, no tank mates that will pick on it or fit in its mouth unless you want to lose it.

Snails and hermits are fine with most lions.

Like all lions once they relise you feed them they are full of personality

if healthy they will also grow very fast so keep that in mind (like with the maroon.) they are smaller than most of the volitans but they still get big.
