Radion and SPS

Has anyone else using the Radions experienced color loss? Any ideas what else could cause this.

I just hooked up my bio pellet reactor yesterday so I plan to give that some time to kick in. A bunch of people mentioned that could help a lot.

My intensity is turned down still, around 55% for the last 2 months. Should I increase it to 75ish%? worried about bleaching corals and killing things though.

I have my Radions 13" above the water and 65% max. The lights stay at 40-50ish then ramp to 65% for only 2 hours. What lighting did you have before you got radions?

How far away are the corals from the light? It sounds like they arent getting enough light. I dont have have radions but do have leds and I started out low and made gradual changes every week to acclimate the corals and reduce the risk of bleaching.

I was the first person to get the radions in Washington state when they first came out.

Mine are about 8" off the water as suggested by ecotech. Maybe i should raise them some?ecotech.

Nothing, this tank was built around the Radions. But all my stores in the area are using MH and T5 still. Some corals have been in the tank for over 3 months though and i feel should be growing a lot faster than they are.

Ive been debating on selling the radions and going back to either T5 or MH. Hopefully not as it would be a costly change over... Again lol

Okay tonight ill raise the lights up about 2-4" from the water surface, then ramp up the Radions for 2-3 hours a day to 65% and slowly lower the lights back down over a few weeks. (They are on a lift os its easy to do this). Thanks guys!

I had mine at 6" on my 90. Once I moved them to 12-13" on my 250 I not only had better spread but the ripples at the bottom look so much better. I understand this is all cosmetic, just tossing out why they were so high up.
The radions compared to a lot of DIY LEDs and other LEDs pack a LOT of punch. Be careful and go slow intensity wise. I know a lot of people that have killed LPS/softies 14" off the water at 80% intensity who were using halides before. One was using a 10 bulb t5 fixture, the other 4 colonies of sps at 80%.... bleached. I know you have SPS just saying

Did you ask ecotech what they recommend? I know they can be very helpful. Maybe list what lighting you were using before you got the radions, and what your light cycle was. Some people who used halides before were able to ramp there lights up higher/quicker than people with t-5.

Thank you! I will take them to 65% and watch to corals closely for a few days. Then in a few weeks maybe bump it up again if things are looking good.

I asked them and they said to bump them up at my pace and what i feel is comfortable for the corals lol So i took that as a were not liable if the corals all die from you turning them up to hugh speech.

Most of these corals are coming from MH and T5 combos at my local shop so turning them up should help i guess. This was a brand new tank so there wasn't any corals added before besides a few zoas/pallys that are doing great strangely.

Marine-engineers had a good right up on par rating... let me see if I can find it. That might give you some thought on how much intensity/ placement

I remember "the olden days" when people just slapped a 250w Halide on their tank and moved the coral up or down if needing more or less light. Now we are all changing intensity and spectrums and whatever else the controller allows us to do... Nice to have all the options, but sometimes I wonder if too much ability to tinker is a bad thing.. Ha

My suggestion is to just go slow and don't make a lot of changes. My SPS all bleached at first with my Radions. They are all now coming back. It took about 2 months for me. I'm at 75% and top acros are about 12 inches from the lights. Might take the % down more but seem to be working well at 75% right now.

I have (3) Radions on my 180gal tank. Currently, I am at 95% and have not once faced any problems. I upgraded from a 100 gal tank to my current one last December when it crashed. All my SPS are frags are from local reefers that had them were under T5 lights. The Radions are mounted in a canapy 8-9" from the water level and most frags are 5-6" below the water level. All of the frags went straight to their current location and have been there since I added the Radions.

I started my Radions at 55% and ramped it up 10% every week. I just adjusted my intensity to 95% but the Radions have been at 90% for about 6 weeks now.

Nice info, what spectrum were you using ? 12k?
