Radion Pro or Kessil AP7000?

I have three Radions and I'm quite happy with them. I did have one fan fail. The light kept turning off and I realized after watching it closely that the fan wasn't running. I called support and had a new fan a couple of days later.

I'm biased. I'm running 1 AP700 and will be running 2 on my 190 (60/27/27). I had AI Hydra 52s before and the AP700 is so much more light.

+1 on needing more than 1 on a 48" tank. Unless you want to have wall to wall SPS, would be enough.

I have two Kessil AP700 on my 180.

I had two Kessil 360ew on a 120 2 years ago

I had MH w/T5s 4 years ago

Most folks in my area have Kessil 360 and T5 supplements with super success.

A LFS here runs three Radions over the frag tank.

All of these are growing coral. I was on the fence and pulled the trigger on the Kessils three weeks ago. For me Kessil has hit it out of the ball park again and may have changed reef lighting moving forward. I remember when the 360s just came out 2-3 years ago and many people asked the same questions about Kessil and these lights have more than proven they grow coral with great color. However they do need T5s with the 360, but having one AP700 per 36" over my 180 and I am so satisfied I have cleared my shopping cart of the T5 retro fits. Not need. The AP700s have far better spread, much better spectrum, and the shimmer is the best part! There is zero disco effect at the sand, the colors blend so well that the light streams in and has nearly the same effect of shimmer as my old HQIs. My aquarium looks like a reef, and not a washed out picture. These AP700 flood your aquarium with crisp light with out harsh color separation or sharp shadows. My frags have immediately begun to improve color and growth on a daily basis. Local reefer donated 12 high end SPS frags to me because he couldn't get growth or color from them under his 6x T5s. In only 3 days color all around has improved on these corals. I predict that these AP700s will be the new gold standard much like radions and the 360s W/T5 combo are now. From their web site "Kessil Logic[emoji769] maintains consistent output across the spectrum, Sky Blue to Deep Ocean Blue". No matter what color spectrum you chose Kessil Logic will include the right amount of spectrum for your coral's health. This removed guessing and trial and error. All you have to do is chose the colors spectrum you like with out worrying about your coral health. Kessil's new proprietary Dense Matrix LED UV mix.
No matter which spectral point is chosen with the tunable spectrum, Kessil's proprietary blend of precision UV light encourages coral coloration.

You can not buy or DIY this precision fixture.

Sure, I am putting faith in Kessil because ultimately these fixtures are new and it's to early to make claims for growth or color. If you consider the company and how the progression of their fixtures has come you can see where this is going. What separates a Radion fixture from a well crafted DIY fixture? Not a lot because you can get the same LEDs, drivers, lenses, and control each channel with a controller.

Radions are easily my next favorite fixture. Ecotech is one of my favorite companies and each of their products are very well designed with quality. However Kessil does LEDs from scratch. They design, manufacture, and assemble with proprietary technology.

When calculating my aquarium I determined I would have needed 4 Radion Pros and that comes out to cost much much more than two Kessils.

Also! And this is very important! If you buy from BRS with 10% group buy points Kessils are NOT excluded like Ecotech!

I like my lights! Lol
