hello,

i bought a Radium 20k 150w DE for my sunpod, when i fire it up there is no blue to it at all. I thought this would have more blue than any other bulb..

is there a correct way to install it? on this bulb it has a little nipple pointing out..is this suppose to be facing the water surface when you install the bulb?

fyi..i waited for like an hour after the bulb was fired and still no blue...its all white...and its a brand new bulb.

help please

That is normal, especially if it is on a HQI magnetic ballast, not sure what sunpod uses now days but most likely white means Magnetic. the corals will react to the light like it is 20k and color up a ton.

hmmm...thats interesting..so is it because of my ballast that is not giving out the blue color? i have seen other tanks with 20k that give out so much blue.

Well I just got the 400w 20k radiums on coralvue dimmable ballast and there white, after about a hour they have a small purple tint, but still white, will it get more purple as it burns in? Nipple is pointed up. Thanks

mine is pointing down, i try to install it with the nipple pointed up and it didnt light up for me.

Tagging along. I use 2x phoenix in my sunpod but will use radium next just to check them out. Ive always been told nipple is up so not sure why they didnt fire.
also, you have to figure the color will change as they burn in. But for me, the phoenix were more blue when they were new and the color improved as they burned in.

hmm...i guess i have to try to install the bulb again with the nipple up..i hope that makes a difference as far as color...but i also heard that it really doesnt matter

Same thing happened to me.. with the nipple pointing up it did not fire, it was ok with it pointing down. I thought it was just a problem with my bulb.

I bought 2 250w se radiums and a dual HQI ballast. One bulb was yellow/white when I first fired them up. It took a week, but eventually the color changed.

i tried it again last night and when the nipple is up it wont fire at all....is it depend on the type of bulb, DE, SE, and wattage? maybe?

I have a 400w 20k and its blue not white I have had the nipple in many ways and no difference but I would keep it up, from what I knew radiums 400w 20k is best hqi

I've read the 250 watters like hqi or overdriven magnetic. The 400 actually like a bit lower than 400 watts. If you have the 400 cranked up on the cv ballast then it will be burning white. Turn them down a bit. I think I read they like around 360 or so.

When I turn them down there's no more blue in them, but when they first come on they have some blue in them, then go white, today will be three days, each day they stay blue longer, so they might need too burn in . Did yours burn white then turn blue? Thanks

I just fired some up yesteday on a SLS HQI ballast. Both of mine are a very strong white with a slight blue tint- they probably need burn in time. Mine are 250w.

I have both, on 250w and 400w the 400 is on CV dimmable, Crisp white with small blue tint. Other is ARO with 250w Same exact color. I like the color, if you want blue blue. look at xm 20k

I've heard it could take up to a month for them to burn in and turn really blue. Also, the Sunpods have Sunpark electronic ballasts in them (the 150w version at least).
