Rainbow Lobo GONE MAD. CHECK THIS OUT

all my fish were all over 1 year old. my smallest of my tangs, was a clown tang, and it mysteriously dissapeared last week without any trace. i had been looking all over for him. yesterday i noticed my largest tang, my vlamingi tang, had also dissapeared. i found his body this morning behind the rocks, not cut up or anything. i had no clue what could have happened to them because they were both perfectly healthy. after walking by my tank when the MH went off and just the actinics were on, i came to this new discovery/theory......i think they were just other victims of my rainbow lobo and his new found enjoyment in killing tangs.

keep in mind that the yellow tang isnt that small either....luckily, i was able to free the yellow tang and he is now out swimming around, however he has lots of white spots on him now from where the brain's tentecles must of had a strong hold of him. i wonder if he's gonna pull through...i guess only time will tell.... craziness i tell you, craziness!

wowo, that is surprising i would take that coral out immediately, he should placed in solitary confinement in the sump.

i needed to get visual proof of what was happening, as ive never seen or heard of a lobo. being able to catch a fish, especially one of that size....he obviously wasnt "saved," as i have yet to see any signs of him today.... hes normally very active, especially when somebody comes near the tank as he thinks he is going to get fed....

I hate to be the downer here, but it is essentially impossible for a Lobophyllia to take down a tang- they just dont sting strongly enough. Im willing to bet something is killing your tangs (disease, something in the water, etc), and your lobo just happened to grab a hold of a dead/almost dead fish (which is completely expected).

I would keep a Really close eye on the rest of your fish- I suspect there is much more going on than what youre seeing right now...

I 100% agree with this post. It is highly unlikely that the Lobophyllia would have been able to capture and kill those fish. You should start searching for other sources of possible fish death!

there is no other explanation i can come up with based on the fact that these fish were perfectly healthy, and all water parameters have been stable and in check.

what tang specific disease could knock them out in less than 24 hours. they showed no previous signs of weakness, and had an appetite strong as ever. i dont know what else could be going on..

so i have been observing the tank more and more. and i guess the lobo did just happen to get a semi sick yellow tang...but i cant figure out what has been going wrong. now my red sea desjardini salfin tang is acting weird, so what disease could the tangs have. he seems to have lost his appetite and his equilbrium seems to be off, as he is struggling to stay balanced. any help/input would be appreciated. what tests could i run to help me figure this out.

this may need to be moved to the reef fishes/fish disease forum (sorry)

I've seen "the fish swimming around with their equilibrium off" symptom before. I've never been able to figure out what causes it, or how to fix it, but I doubt it will be limitd to your tangs. I saw it happen to a foxface rabbitfish I had. Sure enough, slowly, all of my fish dropped off. Ended up moving and starting over, but from now on, I will be QT'ing everything.

I've had that happen before "equilibrium off" and its not a good sign at all - QT everything and hope some pull through
