Andy, Rainfords are surprisingly common in LFS but on the "hard to keep" list because people report that they often do not take to aquarium food and slowly starve. As a micropreditor, its hard to find a food that they like so hopefully your tank has some filamentous algae and microinverts that it can find. You can also try vitamin enriched brine-shrimp or cut up mysis.

there is a lot of filamentous algae and microinverts. I add copepods every few months so I think it will be ok but I was just worried that it has a parisite or something

I had mine for about a year in a six foot long 100g tank (had to sell him when I took the tank down). He never ate any of the food I put into the tank, instead opting to sift sand all day long and occasionally take bites out of the filamentous algae I had.

He actually did really well and grew a lot in both length and width, but MAN did he do a number on the sandbed fauna. It was easy to see they have such a bad track record; they may be the right size for a nano, but need an enormous amount of space to conduct their feeding (like a mandarin).

I`ve had mine for almost 2 yrs now in a 55g. He`s never eaten any food. Just picks off rocks and sand constantly, and doing good. One of my favorite fish.
