I live in Canada, so that might make a wee difference, however it is a local store that gets them in every now and again.

Also no, within 1-2 days they were feeding. So like I said, give capelin/herring eggs a try! It could be a saving grace.

Update:

Big one sampled New Zealand cockles. He swims around and comes back to sample it every now and then.

I have both of those butterflies currently and I will tell you that it is a very long process to get them eating.

They both showed similar characteristics in feeding responses. Once they started eating, as long as you are consistent with your food offerings and maintain high water quality, they should be fine.

I took some video of my tank earlier today, I'll try to post it later.

Glad to hear one is eating hopefully the others follow suit soon.

Do they still only eat clams/oysters for you?

I'm hoping to wean them onto other food for a more balanced nutrition.

They will eat Larry's when I offer it, but I'm out at the moment. So they are getting a lot of clams at the moment.

Big one will consistently nip but not really eat clams.

Little one breaths heavy and twitches.

I believe I introduced ich via a liveaquaria order. unfortunately all the fish from that order died.

Should I tank transfer again or should I make sure they are eating first?

Sad update:

Both rainfordi died. Before they die, they would breath real heavy.

Small one never ate.

Big one nipped at clams and never really swallowed.

quite a disappointing experience and I am $400 short.

If I ever attempt another one, it will be from divers den.



I suspect that they never ate at blue zoo but instead they arrived fat and healthy straight from the sea.

I attribute failure to:

1) tank pollution/ammonia from over feeding to try to get them eatring.

2) lack of acceptance of prepared food due to being freshly imported and being obligate corallivores. I suspect that acceptance of prepared food is highly individualized.

I will alter my quarantine procedure from now on.

I will make sure they are eating in a cycled tank before attempting ttm.

clams can quickly pollute during ttm.

If you do a few thread searches, and even check out fishbase, you'll see that they actually are not. I think it has more to do with handling until you have them.

How long did it take for yours to accept scallops. Did it nip or swallow the food in the beginning.

It's been a while, but if I recall correctly, it ate scallop a day or two after I got it, in QT.

Based on my older posts about it, it looks like it started eating pellets around 5-6 weeks after I got it.
