Rainsoft water treatment system

Just wondering if any of you have a rainsoft water treatment system in your home. And what you think about using the treated tapwater for water changes in a reef tank. We do use the R/O for evaporation, but the ro unit we have has a one gallon tank so thats all we can get out of it at a time it is slow and we end up using tapwater to do water changes. Any thoughts about this? I kno that using tap water is a NO NO. i wonder if there is a way to bypass the one gallon tank on the ro unit without afecting the quality of the water that comes out? Not sure how all that works

thanks Lee

how fast is your r/o unit? most are in the 2-3 gal/hr (50-75 gal/day). some are higher, some are lower.

if you get a container to store the r/o water, you can make it a batch at a time and draw from that. containers could be as simple as a rubbermaid trashcan. they could also have a float switch so your r/o water automatically tops off the storage container.

i currently use a rubbermaid roughneck container with a stopcock that i installed, but i'm not confident that they last. as soon as i have the room for a round traskcan or a 55gal barrel, i'm switching. but, so far it is working.

Hi folks,

I have the rainsoft system. I have also added and airwater ice 5 stage filter with RO & DI to my system. I also added a plastic 55 gallon drum that once held pickels as a storage unit for my top off and I use this water for making salt water for changes. I have also added a hot magnum for filtration and a large power head for circulation. This seems to work for me.

have you had problems with any algea growth since you have gotten the rainsoft system? and thanks for the reply
. :)

I have had some alge problems. I added phosphate reactor and that has helped a lot. I still get some brown alge on the glass. I am looking for a snail or something that will eat it.
