Raising salinity

The salinity rise should be doable by topoff. I'd say about 24 hours, since I can't recall this evening whether it's the rise or fall that is the more troublesome. 12 minimum.

Thanks for your reply, is it raising it that is more troublesome. I have a problem, fish at the store were suppose to be in .24 but instead were in .18 and my QT is at .25 and I have no extra RO water made, they have been acclimatizing for 4 hours now and are now at .21, any suggestions?

If it is just a QT and you have some water conditioner and tap that is safe to drink, that should work to match 1.021. I think a four hour acclimation so far, plus 1.018 to 1.024 is just too much to be safe.

Yeah, just whip up some tap and water conditioner and you should be okay.

I typically keep my QT at 1.019-.020. Seems like a lot of LFS like to run about 1.018 and the couple of times I ordered from LA, it is 1.020.

Any prime or amiquel?

Great suggestion if I had water conditioner, I am on well water and we don't drink it.

Shoot, and you can't make new RO in the 4 hours it has taken already? Worst case I'd quickly go out and buy a bottle of water. If the QT is small that should be enough.

Tracey2, not sure what you mean by "they have been acclimatizing for 4 hours now and are now at .21"? But I agree, just get a bottle of r/o water from the grocery store or Lowe's and adjust your QT tank down to .018-.021. LFSs and DD typically keep their s.g. on the low side as this is less stressful for the fish, i.e., at a lower s.g., the fish do not need to consume so much water to prevent dehydration.

Fish shipp for up to 48hrs... So get them floating for temp control, lights out for low stress and let things sit for 12hrs... Make some RO and match your QT to current levels and wait a few days....

Thanks for the help everyone. My QT is large so I couldn't get it down to .21 without alot of water so I pulled a 10g I had put away and made enough water to set it up at .21 for the night. I have been making water now for 6 hours so should be able to bring the QT down tomorrow. Hope this makes sense, I am exhausted.
