Came home this evening to this , my coral beauty (Rhonda) in my chocolate chip sea stars arms . I fed the tank this morning . As usual Rhonda ate her formula two flakes then all is well and I left for work . Come home to a disturbing sight . Like what the heck ! Pretty upset .

I have heard horror stories about chocolate chip stars, I wasn't sure how common it was though. I'm sorry, that really sucks

I tell people all the time to get rid of the Chocolate Chip starfish because they eat fish!!!! But no they don't wan to believe me :hammer: The only thing that CCS are good for is their legs for food for Harlequin shrimp.

I'm so sorry for your loss. :(

They are known fish eaters??? Why am I just finding this out . Haha well off to buy a harlequin shrimp

I've only heard about some brittle stars catching fish by forming traps with their body, but never heard that about these kind of sea stars. I wonder how he caught that fish.

BTW: that coral beauty was likely a male

I agree with Jason, Chocolate Chip stars will eat anything that is alive. I've been telling people this for years, pretty much all of them called BS on me for saying it. If you don't mind I'd like to post this on the Newbie forum, or if you want to do so please do. Maybe it will help someone else not lose fish over having one of these murderous bastards :hammer:

Oh Jason, Red Sea sent me the set of those cards for my test kit ;)

Go for it my friend ! Let it be known !

i work in a lfs on my offtime for store credit and ive seen 3-4 CCS eat fish in the tanks there over the past year so id say its definitely something that happens

With brittle stars I get it - they're fast, but I still wonder how a slow and rather inflexible chocolate chip seastar can catch a healthy fish during daytime.
