Ranco controller hookup - sensor sheath

Hi gang,

I bought a Ranco controller to run my submersible heater. I'm in the process of hooking everything up and I had a question regarding the sensor. There is a black plastic sheath that surrounds the sensor lead along the length (for about 2 feet or so). I'm assuming this sheath permenantly stays on the lead? Also how much of the sensor wire should be submerged into the water? Does is matter if it's mounted vertically or horzontally?

thanks

Hi sdc19982002, thanks for the reply. I actually have a few more questions regarding the programming. We have the dual stage unit but are just running a heater for now (no chiller).
First off, is it ok to run the unit this way? Also the female plugs are labeled chiller and heater. In the programming instructions it looks like you have the option of choosing heat or cool for each (C1/H1 option for chiller or heat and C2/H2 option for the other). So I'm assuming I plug the heater into the heater labeled plug but in the programming is this plug designated to H1 or H2? I didn't want to program the one and have the heater in another.

thanks again

Hello again! I actually talked with a Current rep he said no problem leaving chiller plug open and from the factory stage 1 is the chiller and stage 2 is the heater. (You could switch either one in the programming if you wanted to though).
