Randall's Pistol Shrimp

Anyone familiar with Randalls pistol shrimp. I wanted to get a pistol but am concerned about it attacking cleaner shrimp. I've read horror story about pistol's becoming assasins. Even saw a video the other day on here of an actual attack. That's when I saw a Randall's. Seems like a fairly small and non aggressive species.

Is that the video you are talking about? If so, pretty sure this is fake/staged because that type of environment is not where a cleaner shrimp would be found.

Also, I have a Randall's pistol in my 70g with two cleaner shrimp, hermits, and snails and it has never attacked anything except food. It is paired with a barber pole goby.

If a fish is injured/sick, then yes, it probably will try to eat it if it is close enough. But, IME, that shrimp will not move half an inch from his home. I have even witnessed snails and hermits venture into the burrow and make it out later.

The pistol shrimp I have lives with a yellow watchman and other hermits and snails. Unlike GhostCon mine is all over the tank him and the ywg have built numerous tunnels and places under rocks for them to dart thru but never had a issue with it attacking anything.

I have one and the only shrimp I had vanish were my sexy shrimp...but it could have been anything that vanished them (I only had 2). I have peppermint shrimp and they are fine. Pistol shrimp will eat shrimp that are smaller than they are and if the shrimp venture into the pistol shrimp area. I have had my pistol for about a year and a half and he lives with my yellow watchman goby...I will tell you, if you have a big tank...you will hardly ever see the pistol shrimp as it likes to burrow in the sand under the rocks. I had mine in a 30g and I could see it almost every night when I fed, but now he is in a 75g and I have not seen him in a month...lol! You will hear them though (click their claw), it is a loud pop.

I am not sure what kind of pistol shrimp I have(its bright red). Mine is in a 90 and has burrows running through half the tank and I see em quite often actually. I did lose my cleaner shrimp in about a week of getting him though and the cleaner stuck to the left side of the tank and pistol on the right side.

It depends on the type of pistol shrimp. The one in the video everyone see's is not a pairing pistol and hunts other shrimp. Most of the ones in teh trade are either tiger pistols or candy cane (randalli's) and pair with gobies and are not agressive to other animals unless those animals try to get in their hole.
