Everyone loves a good ranking. Anyone care to rank tangs by level of aggression (generally), highest to lowest? Based on perusing posts on RC, this is how I understand it:
Nasty
Mean
Not terribly mean
Generally, it seems like the order of aggression by genus goes something like this (with notable outliers being the Purple tang (aggressive for a Zebrasoma) and the Powder Brown (less aggressive for an acanthurus)):
Nasty
- Clown (Acanthurus lineatus)
- Sohal (Acanthurus sohal)
- Vlamingi (Naso vlamingi)
- Bluespine (Naso unicornis)
- Naso (Naso lituratus/elegans)
- Powder Blue (Acanthurus leucosternon)
- Achilles (Acanthurus achilles)
- Purple (Zebrasoma xanthurum)
Mean
- Convict (Acanthurus triostegus)
- Atlantic Blue (Acanthurus coeruleus)
- Chevron (Ctenochaetus hawaiiensis)
Not terribly mean
- Powder Brown (Acanthurus japonicus)
- Pacific Blue (Paracanthurus hepatus)
- Sailfin (Zebrasoma desjardini)
- Scopas (Zebrasoma scopas)
- Yellow (Zebrasoma flavescens)
- Kole (Ctenochaetus strigosus)
- Tomiensis (Ctenochaetus tomiensis)
