Well I was in Honolulu during the end of the year and got some neat photos (unfortunately with only my phone) of some rare angels. Figured everyone here would be interested!

My fav was definitely the personatus, but I couldn't figure out the last one. Anyone know what it is?

Ah! I looked at all the fish on centropyge.net trying to ID it and no wonder...it is a relatively new species. I knew it looked interesting!

Just wait a few months, what they have in the 'back' in QT will blow you away. Got a sneak preview when I was in town for the Honolulu Marathon. Too bad I can't show you the photos.

You missed the rarest of the rare...the C. nahackyi angel.

In the same tank there is the only other known specimen of Potteri x fisheri hybrid.

Yeah I saw the hybrid but couldn't get a good photo since it was their black coral deepwater exhibit and was too dark.

Wow, the C. abbei has really colored up, since I first saw him in a pic. That was what? About 4 years ago? I remember we discussed this one a LOT back then (Us=Myself, Copps, Flame*angel, and all the other angelfish geeks).
Really great shot!
Does C. interuptus actually qualify as a Rare Angel though? ( they are here in the US, but what about Japan?). Too bad about the Nahacky. Maybe someone else has a shot of that one..

Unfortunately the C. nahackyi died recently. There are photos of it in Chuck's AAOLM article about rare fish at Waikiki.

@John Dawe, why can't you show the photos? Stuff from the NWHI trip? I think Rick Klobuchar posted that stuff on his facebook so I don't know if it's a huge secret... :D

Rick said we could take all the photo's we wanted, just don't post them. He did not say don't talk about them. Its all the fish from the NWHI trip. I just had a cell phone, Koji Wada had a nice camera and took looks of photos of the fish like the ones on the cover on his 2011 calendar. The photo's are still on my cell phone.

"the only other known specimen of Potteri x fisheri hybrid" was looking kind of over weight. Another one was caught by another divier but did not survive QT, lived about a month.

just read the article of C.Delbeek again...it was said that they had permit to collect this fish back in 2006(the time article was written)...what happened?didn't they collected multiple specimen...?is the recently dead specimen was from that batch or even previous one....seem too many death of this centropyge even for experts...

Thanks Chris!
Although I'm really bummed about the news of its death, that was one beautiful Centropyge. Nice to see his pic again. No telling if they will ever get another one.
The C.abei looks like its doing well in the above pic.
Some day, I must visit this place. Not to mention, Hawaii itself!
