Rare ORA species

In the early 2000's ORA was raising some different species like A. nigripes and A. tricinctus. Does anyone know if they are still working with those species? Or could anyone PM me with ideas on where to acquire these species.
Thanks,
Mark

Contact Sustainable Aquatics, I know they have been working on them, however I do not know it they are raising any yet.

I *believe* ORA decided to quit producing Tricinctus as they did not sell well, but you could always call and ask, they are very friendly people. I get the list from them every week and I have not seen them on the list, at least since I have been getting it.

It looks like saltwaterfish.com has A. nigripes in stock. I believe Inland Aquatics has some home grown CB, but you would need to check on that as I'm not certain.

As for A. tricinctus, your best bet would be to watch liveaquaria dnd NY Aquatics.

Keep in mind, both of these species are terrible shippers and prone to brook, so a QT is a must IMO.

QT with an Anemone

QT with an Anemone

Ok guys im going out on a limb here.

I say any hard to ships clowns should be QT with an anemone.
Why do i say this?

1. Protection - Makes them feel comfortable
2. Slime Coat - The Anemone forces the clown to produce replenish their slime coat and in fact keep them healthy to a degree.

My Proof and my expierence, not scientific fact.

Nigripis - Wild Caught 4 Fish -
First pair - Blue Zoo Aquatics - No survivors no anemone
Second Pair - Blue Zoo Aquatics - 2 survivors in a tank with RBTA, they both immediately when in QT.

Akinydnos - Wild Caught 4 fish
First Pair - breeder - 1 survivor - 1 living no anemone
Second Pair - LFS- 2 surviviors both fish shot immediately into RBTA in QT

It makes sense, maybe your on to something. The reason clowns are hardier is due to their extra heavy slime coating. Obviously this would only hold true to WC unless CB were hosting proir to shipping. Good food for thought.

Most captive bred clowns i beleive dont host because they are not attacked and eaten during grow out. Instead of 5 our of 200 making it 150 out of 200 do.

They dont face the same life situations.

You have to figure

You have to figure

the slime coat is what keeps the clowns from getting eaten and stung.

My observations continue

My nigripis when they first showed up having external parasites growing on one of their tails. In QT with no chems or meds.
After three days of being in the anemone the one lost the external parasite on its tail.

I suspect from my finding that the anemone provides alot more then just shelter for the clowns.

Id go as far as to say it promotes health and kills on any external problems.

I dont use meds with my clowns unless its to the point where enriched food doesnt help or the anemone.

I was at Inland yesterday. Two months ago there was a problem with there spawning Nigripes tank and they were both lost.I have 4 comming from a jobber in cal. next week.Wish me luck.
