**Rare tangs? Rare angelfish?**

I'm in the process of building a 125gal reef. Still in the plumbing stages right now. My plan is to have a couple "stars" in the tank and then maybe only a couple other smaller fish (pair of clowns, green chromis) I was wondering what are a couple cool tangs and "reef safe" angels you don't seem ordinarily. I don't want to spend a million dollars but don't mind spending a little extra for something cool. I have had a sohol before which was really cool and ended up getting rid of when moving. Just looking for something besides the average blue hippo and yellow tangs. Nothing against them lol, have had both and both were awesome fish.

You could try a scopas tang. They do not look good in stores, but when they color up they are a good looking fish

You should look into a small school (3 or 4) of Gem tangs! :beer:

For practical purposes, I like Vlamingi's, Mimic Lemon Peels, Naso's (both blonde and regular), Achilles but they can be problematic, purple which also can be problematic. You tank size however is a bit small for the Vlamingi's and Naso's. At least long term.

Yeah I thought about a purple, at one point. I had a buddy that had one and I really liked it. I just don't know though. You still see quiet a few of those as we'll even though they are priced a little higher. Same with a black tang.. I believe there like $500-$600 and look exactly like a yellow tang, just black. I understand there rare but just plain.

I am a fan of the convict or chocolate mimic tangs. Both are very good looking fish, and you don't see them as frequently.

Wow that's one cool fish. I did a search and one article said they were about $3000.00 each if you could find them. Sign me up for three of them, and one Ferrari Testarossa :beer:

One of my favorites for a medium sized tank is the Tomini. Not rare, but not super common either. Second would be an Achilles. Many can be aggressive so be sure to add it last. Very sensitive to ich and other parasites so be sure to QT everything from the beginning.

For angels my favorite is the regal. Tough to get to eat but chances are good if you are skilled and acquire a healthy specimen. Other suggestions would be a pair of masked swallotails (kinda tough to find), bellus or watanabe.

I had never heard of the gem tangs. Looked them up and they actually look pretty cool. $3000 is a little much for my budget though lol.

I saw them and thought, I love it. Then found the price and decided against it.

Atlantic blue tangs are nice.

I also like the alantic blue not super common but easy enough to get. The half mimic is cool to but some of the mimics lose there color when they get to adult size.

So are ctenochaetus hawaiiensis. They both might be larger than you would want in the 125, but nice fish.

Humaguy has some cool angels, you could ask him about about rare angels like your asking.

Most of humaguys angels are not reef safe or considered reef safe. I believe most of them are in his Fowlr and not reef. As for other angels considered reef safe try the genicanthus angels, there are several to choose from and they do great in pairs and the females and males are very distinct from each other except for the Lamarks.

I would really like to have a Sohol too. Don't see those to often and I don't know how it would do in a 125gal. Very cool and good looking fish. Why don't you see many people with them?
