RARE TO YOU Frag Swap

I am happy to bring a micro instead of the LE flower petal. I have Darklord's Burning Star, very bright, very colorful red/green micro. It is the one in my collection that I can get a decent cut off...3-4 polyps probably. My Independence Day is still to small...sorry :(. Let me know if that is preferable to the flower petal.

I'm confused if I should be posting this in this thread or the other one but here is a pic of the Darklord Burning Star Micro I am willing to bring as my third coral instead of the LE flower Petal. the pic is from their site, I hope they don't mind me using it. My piece pops in color even more than this picture shows, the green and red literaly glow. One of my favorite Micros in my tank :D.

sounds good to me... I will also ry to frag off a couple of polyps of our micro.. picked up a diamond wheel over the weeeknd for our dremel.. wish us luck :)

I can't trade with anyone, as everyone local knows that I'll give them a frag for free if they ask nicely *pout*

How big are micros compared to lords? Never seen micros in person only micros that were macroed and then everything looks huge!

I could bring lords if people prefer over my tenuis, or if anyone wants some, however they aren't any special you would never see them on places like JenDub, but with enough actinic and 20k lighting they can look nicer and those you probably would see on some of the higher end sites :)

Micros are, well, micro :). Some polyps are larger than others but mostly they are relatively small. I plan on cutting 3-5 heads for my frag...definately worth it as a high end sort of frag. To put it in perspective, whether you agree with the pricing or not, I paid $225 for a frag of the Burning Star with 8 polyps/2 babies...came out to about $22/polyp. Not so bad. I've paid as high as $120/polyp...I know crazy :D. But mostly I try to find nice unique high end micros for around $20-$40/polyp.

How do you do it on a teacher's salary? I mean I make fairly good money as a college professor, but still not that kind of scratch.

Qwiv, I think you're underestimating the willingness of these reefers to have something really good happen here. It's much of what our club is based on.

I know the willingness of THIS club. Unfortunatly, other clubs/people are not the same. I am questioning more from a "copy this idea elsewhere' possition. BAR folks and even regular locals tend to bend over backwards for eachother, especially the more active members. Other places, this is not the case. I also work with people that will stab you in the back while shaking your hand, so I am always the devil's advocate. Sorry, we all have character flaws.
Wish I could have jumped in on this. Everytime I checked the thread, I didn't have the current requests.

I think if you repeat this, the person who starts the swap should post what they have available. Not saying you in particular would do this cwolfus, as the rest of the folks here would kill you, but what if you tell the last person you only have zoos and xenia for example. (We know that isn't true) The last person in the chain would have to take your xenia or risk breaking the entire chain. That is a lot of pressure. The person who started the swap would end up with (2) rare corals in exchange for xenia. :) The second and third person to join the swap would bring (3) rares and walk home with (2) rares and xenia. :( You can see how it is possible to abuse the situation. It would also make it more fun. You could have some rare coral I really want, and I can try my best to be the last person to sign-up on purpose. Some people like the gamble.

Goodluck with the swap everyone.

P.S. Sparkss, I forgot to give you the Zoo frag the other day. Totally spaced. Remembered when I fraged a fiece this weekend. I'll save you one. Will give it to you next time I see you. Let me know when your local again.

Well, you can get 1 small fast growing micro polyp or 1 big brown slow growing acro mini colony for the same price ;)

Both are about the cost of a few lattes.

Good point Qwiv.

Once this is done I am going to post a lessons learned thread to help others that want to adopt this model. Your suggestion will be included, and I hope you will post others that you may have.

Thanks for helping to make this even better!

hey norman,

if you don't mind, i can bring the le flower petal monti (as i have a frag already accidentally made).. as i'd really like to see the soly in the swap if you have a frag to throw in, or one of the other two listed below.. just my preferences though.. :D

Eddie's Solitaryensis

LE Branching Alien Eye
Alien Eye Mycedium (in the pic I posted)

Slojmn - I agree, bring the micro. A few of us have the flower petal, so I'm sure it will still be there.

Sparkss - Likewise, though there were a few requests for the pokerstar. Either way works.

BTW, I have no interest in being the final arbiter of what people should bring for their 3rd, though I'm happy to tell you what I think. Feel free to disregard.

Well, I can bring a Pokerstar, no problem.

Not lineaged to Frag Farmer though. But I think a lot of the ones out there aren't.

Well, the one thing, at least in this area/group, that I think prevents that from happening, is something Hector said to me a couple of months back, about what tends to keep the locals around here more "honest" :). He called it the "Fear of smear" and here in the Bay Area if someone pulled a fast one, or tried to, the word would spread like wildfire and that would be about it for trading with any other club members. As it was Charles had plenty to offer us, and we ae even looking to negotiate some additional trades with him for some of it :). But I do see your point Qwiv.
