Otterpop, you're right.

The requestor asked me what I thought and I told them I was willing to make an exception. But in hindsight that was a bad call and you ended up finding someone else.

For future exceptions - I'll consider them, but only if a requestor cannot find someone else to provide their primary or secondary pick.

Well, I picked Dinosaur Egg for my second choice to help move things along since I saw Perry had that.

My first choice is Orenji, but I doubt anybody has that for the swap. My second choice really would be something like "a way cool non indo lord" or "a unique hitchhiker coral that someone has discovered".

But it's no biggie to me if I don't get the most superduperbestestrarest frag. It's cool just to pick whatever so that people can hang out an have fun and hopefully get some future propagation action going

No need to wait 3 days for my pick. If no Orenji shows up by say tomorrow afternoon, Perry's Dinosaur Egg works for me, and things can keep moving

Seems like Atlantis likes red/pink and green corals... their nasuta (lebelled their "Atlantis Pink Lemonade" for a short while), birdsnest, etc

The mirabilis is one that we unfortunately don't have though

just hope someone wants something you have, even if you don't think it's rare. it's hard getting rare pieces, but keep a lookout, try to trade, maybe you'll need to spend some initial money, but you'll get it soon =)

One neat thing about "Rare to You" is that it represents what the group as a whole views as rare or desirable.

It's not just some person who you've never met before telling you what coral is supposed to be "cool or not cool".

Maybe it's like "hot or not" for frags

One of the things that gave me this idea was watching all the flak Rich, Jim, and Karl got for deciding on rares. There is always someone who has a different opinion and varied concern/interest in lineage.

This way we are each our own expert while still benefiting from each others expertise.

... and we get to spread around all these awesome corals!

Since I'm kind of new to the corals.How can I tell if I have rare items.And do the rare have to be named rares? I'm in S.F. anyone wanted to come over and tell me if I have anything good.
I buy mainly by the colors I want in the tank.It's full but lots of small frags.

Since this thread is only about meeting the previous persons request, knowing if you had a bunch of rares or not would do little good. You need to know if you have the specific ones listed. Try searching on the ones being requested to find a picture, but also bear in mind that the requestor migh require lineage be provided to validate your "rare", so if you cannot trace it back to the originator of that rare/le, then you possibly won't be able to use those frags for this thread/swap.

EDIT : If you didn't feel like you were passing a kidney stone when you bought it, then it likely wasn't a true traceable LE . Such is the nature of rare corals. . Try shopping at Atlantis or other such "high end coral" stores. They will tell you the lineage and LE/coral name when you buy it.
