Who's the next to join us?

If no one comes up with anything within the next couple of hours, we will add a few to our request list. Any suggestions ? :)

kind of hard to frag but

uniquely colored :

Dendros
Duncans
????

I got a brightly colored orange yuma with a purple base, i can make frags but i doubt they will be ready by the time this goes down, so its more of a fyi sparkss

Sam, Just anything other than the common green one. I have seen some interesting color morphs.. not being picky or anything, but we already have a more common green duncan :)

Barring that, we do have some other potential requests :

A couple of chalices and echinos, etc

LE Watermelon Alien Eye
LE Juner's Echino
LE Brick Red Chalice
LE Upscales Raspberry Chalice
LE Red Watermelon Alien Eye

:)

Is it just me or is it that the bay area reefers not willing to share? I always hear we get the best choice of corals, etc... and that most people want to share the wealth and all that, but when push comes to shove, nobody except a few are willing to offer anything. I always see tons of great pictures and corals represented by the local reefers, but when a great idea like what is started here, we all should take advantage of it. I am not directing this at any person, so please do not take it the wrong way.

Well, it may be that a lot of people would like to share, but their frags are kinda small still.

I think very few of us are able to put two 3/4"x3/4" setosas or Watermelon Alien Eyes, or two 1" Pink Lemonades into the swap, let alone just one.

If people are flexible(like Tom and others have been) and ask for something less than the most ultimate uber rare pieces, then more people can join in! :)

So the frag sizes is the problem. I understand now. Thanks
However alot of the requested frags came from the bay area and should not be all hard to maintain. Maybe we can work on the rules slightly so more people can join.

That was why I added the undata. I got one but wanted one for a friend.

Some other choiuces for me are
atlantis passion fruit speciosa
depwater acros that are not green or brown( I like granulosa or caroliniana)
Le confusa

some of the frags you requsted just very rare i just got a setosa and 20k lokani from Fragframers last week. Eric told me that he as distributed less than 10 frags of each. w/ the 20K lokani he as only sold two frags since he moved around the first of the year i think. Speaking for myself i have most of the frags you are after however i have gotten them in the last 2-3 mo and don't want to frag a 3/4" frag mine just need time to grow as i am sure is the case with others.

not to mention, we might have some of the "best choices" of corals, but I would be willing to bet a large majority of people in reefing here to do not have the pieces. Thanks to the internet, prices have remained really high on pieces because of the demand everywhere UPS or FedEx ships.

But whatever, some people are only willing to share if they're going to get something out of it, some people really do want to spread the wealth, the end result is the same, diversity is spread out to other reefers, some of those will be more will to share later and this project is a success.

another thought.. since it seems alot of sps are currently being requested, wondering if potentially we keep to 1/2" by 1/2" min. for 'plate' coral frags (encrusting, plating, chalice, etc.) and 3/4" min. for 'stag' coral frags if this would help as it seems alot of people are concerned about being able to make two frags.. or would this be too small for stability of frags?..

don't know if this may help put more potential frags and people in?..

Really depends on the person's coral/system. And can depend on how long ago the frags were made.

I've rescued accidental frags and chips that were about 1/8" tall.

One of the Candlelights(not the ones for the swap) is barely 3/16" tall right now and the base has encrusted to 1/4" diameter.

I have various encrusting montis that started out small like that and have encrusted and put out new growth.

Smaller can be ok if the person knows that the frag has stabilized and has been putting out new growth. I've seen fresh cut 1x1 pieces go downhill too.

Good point Mr. Ugly.

However, why take the chance? I don't think it is worth reducing standards to the point where the frags are much less likely to make it. Especially since, regardless of size, we're going to have 20 people there and less stable frags undermine many of the reasons for doing this.

There's plenty of stuff to ask for without reducing the size requirements. The LE undata is an very nice score :)

I'm sure next year you'll be seeing big frags of the currently high demand pieces :)

I agree with you 100%. A few months back I did not have the time to maintain my reef the way I like, so I had some friends hold a few frags and others I sold off. I was looking for those particular frags because they did not make it in the holding tank. It was a long shot asking for them, but I am happy with the undata that I am getting.
