Rarest Chalice?

Rob +1 I think we need to know what we are talking before we post as mentioned A. Rortef is not as rare I see then in my lfs quite frequently but sure they are very nice.

Rob I think we need a History lesson on the My Miami so people understand how this piece came to us. If no one writes the history I will later as I am too lazy write now.:)

I know the history of the MY Miami. I seen this chalice maybe 3-4 years ago when i sold my first frag of Melting pot to Jason Fox. He gave me the whole ordeal on this new chalice. I never knew it would be this Rare so i pass on it. My Miami is one of a kind dont get me wrong but i have seen some copy cat colony it might not exactly the same but similair. By picture it looks kind of like the Blueplanet Watermelon and it just my opinion. I not here to stir up trouble just having a discussion. I don't think any chalice is RARE if you can frag it and buy it. It is only RARE if one person own it and no money could buy it. Like i stated this is just an opinion.

Ktar, could not agree more. And I love the BPC watermelon and am waiting to get that one too if I can. It does look very similar to the Mi Miami and understandable that people could think they are the same coral. Same thing could happen with different morphs of other watermelons too.

I been waiting forever and no phone call or email yet. This hobby sucks because i am addicted and need help. I have to buy something every week if i dont, i dont feel rite for some reason sound crazy dont it.

The Mi Miami and My Miami are the same thing, sorry for any confusion. That's just what my wife calls it, she's from here. Ktar, I feel your pain. We should start a support group, but am afraid we will only end up making each other worse. :mixed:

I'm good friends with Jason Fox so I get to see all his amazing chalices. I can tell you that this piece is one of a kind. He has many more that no one has seen that are even more beautiful than the My miami.

I am sure he has some amazing pieces, but so do a lot of reefers that don't post on RC or other forums.

...anything nice, rare and expensive!!

Your right, but you don't see many ppl that have a coral collection like he does. When you see it in person you'll **** your pants:)

I keep a toilet and roll of paper in front of my tank:lol:

Was perusing Veron and thought I would share a little. In terms of rare species of chalice, echinophyllia taylorae, e. costata (Cost alotta!), e. pectinata, e. echinata "usually rare", echinomorpha nishihirai, oxypora egyptensis, and mycedium steeni are all listed as "rare" in the natural environment. E. echinoporoides and e. aspera are common, as are several others. Seems to me that rare color combos of rare species in nature would constitute a high level of rarity among those who care about such things. I would like a sweet color combo on a echinomorpha nishihirai, who's got one of those?

I like em alot, but honestly they are unnecessary. Neat to have around, some really cool pics, and tons of info on corals and their variations around the world. Believe you can get them cheaper than 150, but not sure. Think mine were 100 or so around 2 years ago, bought as the three book set. It has also been fun identifying corals from dives here around Miami and the Keys using Corals of the World as a guide, and still have a few to see. Worth it to me, but then again I talked my Mom into buying them for me for Christmas. :bum:

wow amazing. i have been to wwc and the mi miami is pretty small, but nice. the bubble gum moster was ok, the store was from another planet

i think maybe the right term to be used here instead of rare woudl be scare. There are things that are rare that nobody wants. But scare is a different story adn that is where you guy are getting messed up here. So think about it like that and see what you come up with
