What did you think of your Vortech? Did it have a long life? Would you reccomend it? Rate your experience: 1= worst, 5= great.

I have two, on separate tanks, each with a BBU. Upgraded to WWDs during the first go around. 1st pump was early generation. EcoTech provided great support, swapped out parts and helped identify and correct issues. 2nd unit was purchased later, no service requirements or issues at all.

Recently purchased an extra wet side for use when cleaning the pumps. Don't have to take them out of service that way.

Love 'em. Can I give each pump a 5 and end up with a 10? :)

Next project: adding a second pump to the 175 to play with sync/anti-sync options.

Well, it looks like I found somehting to add to my Wish List (along with a 400w M.H. system, UV light sterilizer, calcium reactor, oh heck, why not a bigger tank [starfire, rimless] Just Kidding!

Top notch service? Yes. Will you need it? Yes. I have 3 of them on my 90BB. I love not having cords in the tank so I guess the maintenance issues are something I have to deal with.

i must be the only person thats had promblems. every one i've had always made a loud clicking noise so finally i've given up on them..

Lost track of how long i have had mine, but so far pretty impressed with the performance. For sure there is a bit more noise than the Tunzes i have, but with the motor on the outside it's expected.

One thing i did notice was that it was getting a little louder, what i found was that the centrifugal force of the magnet on the wetside was causing the water in the space between the back plate and the magnet to be forced out. Letting this space fill up again with water reduced the noise level back to normal.

Certainly not the only person. Everyone I know with the pumps has had some kind of trouble with them. Some much more than others.

I have had 3 in operation for well over a year now, only one problem, the black ( transformer?) box on one quit. Sent an email, and they had a no charge replacement in the mail. I rate them at a 5 for sure! I love not having the cords in the tank and the flow they put out.

Has been great until it started separating every couple days for no apparent reason and the drive keeps running even when separated. Sending in very soon, have had it less than 6 months, maybe only 3 or 4. Too early for issues, imo, but when functioning it's great.

thats another thing that would happen to me it used to seperate and fall off. the last one i had fell off and my dog ****ed on the control box and fried the whole thing and after that i went with koralia's.

Top notch service. Two day turn around. when I send the pumps in and I love having an extra wetside because when its time for cleaning just put the clean one in and take the dirty one out No power cords unplugging taking pumps out of tank waitting till there clean you get the picture. I rate at a 9> 1 point off from 10 because of the noise. But you have to have some noise with the motor on the outside of the tank.

I give it a 5.

Love em. Quiet and efficient. Now I have to hide the wires that are outside my tank. However, I'd rather have the big bohemoth outside of my tank, then take up room inside the tank.

 I'm shocked that warranties don't cover dog pee...

3 out of 5.
I tried an older Vortech in a trade with my Tunze streams. I felt it was a slight overall downgrade compared to the Streams.

2...only because the flow they generate is awesome. Buying a tunze instead of another vortech for the other side of my tank. The noise is horrid. I've tinkered with the positioning for hours and it's in the spot with least noise and I can still hear it 2 rooms away through the walls. Second to that because of the built in heat protection it rarely pushes at 100% and thats when you can hear it. The house will be silent then BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. 30 minutes later silent again. Plus the whole replacing parts every year because of rust is a turn off. The flow is awesome though.

I have to say that I held off for quite a while on the vortecs while I waited to see how others liked them. So I finally picked one up with a battery back up and have been nothing but happy. The noise is not that bad in my inwall set up (certainly not as loud as others are reporting as I can barely hear it with the TV off) and still quieter than my drains right now. The flow is great and I had one power outage and the thing worked perfectly.

So I can't say 1-5, but I will say I'm going to add another one and see what they can really do;)

5
one is two years old, the other one is about 6 months old, I really like them, no major issues with anything, I'm gonna need a magnet on the older one soon I think.
I use the wwd on both, no bbu, yet.
