i have come to the conclusion of really rating the top five lfs' in memphis--these are only my opinions only and does not reflect the views of others--

here we go----

5. PETCO--where else can you buy ammonia laden un-quarantined fish

4. SOMETHING FISHY---hey, this is the best place for over priced algae covered corals

3. PETSMART--- the only place to drop your other pets off while you walk quickly thru the low inventory aquarium equipment

2. MEMFISH--- nice selection of corals and friendly owners

1. KERMIT'S REEF---- the only place to receive great scientific answers to any question plus easy access to a carpenter/painter and aquarium maintenance man all in one location

BOB'S TROPICAL was left off the list because, well let's face it---prices are too high and NO CORALS

Now that I'm here I know where to and where not to go.

Have previously been to both Kermits and Memfish - Figured that Petsmart and Petco are abou tthe same all around the country - They were pretty bad up north too.

We have the two best LFS in the Memphis area and are also the two that are "Sponsors of our local reef club" as well.

They are "Memfish" and "Kermits Reef" We are very lucky in the memphis area to have these business's and there support of this club and I feel that we should support those that support us as well.

I have to disagree on one point, as far as the assessment of Kermits being the 'only' place to get scientific answers. Richard at Memfish knows his stuff as well.

dont forget andy he knows alot also and memfish also has a person who can make cabinets

I love talking to dave also he knows a lot and always has sugestions i just dont get over that way much. and hes a saints fan to boot

I don't know about the petco facilities anywhere else, but the one in Jackson, TN has to be the sorriest place on earth for service. They did have a couple of good people working there for a while, but there was no sign of them the other day when I went there. Petsmart here really isn't too bad, but I only go there for crickets and science diet. Fishybusiness in Lexington is a good place and I feel lucky to be as close to them as I am. But I am looking forward to going to memfish and kermits, did makefishsmile ever open a retail facility?? Emerald bay and the aquatic critter are pretty nice. If you ever go to Nashville.

Admittedly I would occasionally shop for supplies at Petsmart in a pinch. I would always check their website before going to the store though. I'd print the screen for whatever I planned to buy and bring with me. The store would match website pricing which sometimes was substantially lower. Do the Memphis stores (Petsmart) do the same thing?

Our Petsmart and sometimes Petco would also have an annual $1 per gallon tank sale that our local reefers would pillage.

I agree Fishybusiness in Lexington is a great store I'm relatively new to the area and he has taken a genuine interest in my tank and asks about the details whenever I am in the store. While his selection may not be as vast as kermit's or memfish (love the stores, just a little far away to get to regularly), the stock he does have in is priced well and in good condition.

Bruce is a nice guy. I used to go there when Mark owned it. I have not been to it since Bruce took over.
