Raynox DCR-250 with Rebel XS

I just picked up my first dSLR - a Canon Rebel XS with the "standard" 18-55 mm lens. I was wondering if the Raynox DCR-250 would be a good starter for aquarium macro shots or should I just jump into a Canon 100mm or Tamron 90mm, for example. Thanks.
